when it comes to someone watching my kids. I have a few people that I don't think twice about and of course some neighbor moms but it gets really frustrating when I need a sitter and have no one because i'm thinking maybe i'm too overprotective/anal about who watches them. That and I also usually think somthing along the lines of "they already have x kids so that will be too many once you put our 2 in the mix". We need a babysitter for next weekend Husker game for both my kids and our friends' little 5 1/2 month old boy. They have extra tickets so invited us but unless we come up with a sitter, we ARE the sitter. I've never been to a Husker game and really want to go but it just stresses me out. I usually just end up staying home (or dragging my kids with me if it's feasible) because I hate dealing with the whole sitter situation.
My sister with 18 month old twins never has a problem because her inlaws drop everything and come to Omaha to watch the kids so they can attend every home Husker game. Even last night, they had a wedding reception and guess who came to watch the kids. Yes i'm jealous. I have no problem sending Owen back home with my parents because my dad always keeps him entertained doing things with him that he never got to do with his own kids since he didn't have a boy. Owen is in heaven there. But I don't want to send Jocelyn. I suck.
Re: I think i'm too overprotective....
I am super paranoid about babysitters... I think it's completely normal!!!
So far, the only people who have watched B are one of my best friends who I would trust with my life, and one of the teachers at his daycare. MIL and my mom have watched him, but my mom had other family members with her and MIL - never longer than a couple hours.

You don't suck! Family has only ever watched Elsie and Ian, daycare included, well unless you count pre-school for E. It's so tough for some of us moms to let someone else watch our kids. I have a tough time with it.
Heck, I can't even let my kid spend the night at grandma's until they've turned a year old. I have issues.
