Is a Silhouette machine worth the money?

If you own one, what would you say?

Re: Is a Silhouette machine worth the money?

  • I'd say yes. So far I have made birthday invitations, cards, banners and appliques with it. I haven't even had a chance to cut an vinyl yet.

  • I bought one a few months ago and have used it almost every weekend since then. I had never used a die cutting machine before, so I can't compare it to other machines, but I love my silhouette. I'm actually sad that I didn't buy one sooner.

ETA: I also love their online store and that you can buy exactly which shapes you will want to use as opposed to buying a cartridge of shapes and only using a few of them. And, I like their free shape of the week.

  • I have a different cutter called the Pazzles but it's the same idea (not cartridge based) and I love it - use it ALL the time!  If you think you'll get the use out of it, it's totally worth it.
  • I wish I'd gone for a Silhouette instead of my Cricut E- I don't recommend any provocraft products. Right now, the strongest contender for its replacement is the Klick N Kut's Zing. I like the sound of the new Silhouette- but, I haven't heard whether they'll support 3rd party software yet, and that is a requirement for me.
  • I have a Cricut Expressions and a Silhouette SD.  The Silhouette wins out hands down on cutting ability.  The Cricut is nice because of the 12x12 cutting width but there's other machines that have that capability that are much better.  I definitely recommend a Silhouette though.  What do you plan on using it for?

All of this. I can't justify buying a new machine when I just got the Cricut last year.

  • I love my silhouette, and I have the older version. I've had it about 4 years or so. I got it for scrapbooking, but honestly in the last year or so I have used it for almost everything but scrapbooking. I started getting into the vinyl, and I've really loved it so my scrapping has suffered. :) I would LOVE to get the Cameo (which just came out and cuts 12" now) but just can't justify it unless my old trusty decides to take a crap on me... and it doesn't look like it will anytime soon.

  • I love the freedom I get with my sil. I'm a very spontaneous crafter, and I LOVE that i can grab any image any time, no planning to buy a cartridge I may only use a couple of images only a couple of times.not to mention, it cuts any true font or jpeg (additional steps required). as a pp mentioned, there's a weekly free shape, and weekly 'clearance'
