Site to help one distinguish between different fabrics?

Say, for example, I want to know what the fabric on my DDs stuffed animal is just by touch and sight?

Or, how to tell the difference between minkie and velboa and velour.

And how to determine if what I have is silk.

Nutmeg, cilantro, sage, mint, thyme... these are a few of my favorite things! Visit The Nest!Visit The Nest! We have four children; one left us too soon.

Re: Site to help one distinguish between different fabrics?

  • I have this book - it's helpful for this sort of thing but I usually rely on the label.  I have the book more for looking up about the fabrics when I know what they are to begin with.  HTH!

  • I had to learn this in school (Interior Design) in my textiles class.  I remember having to burn some strings of the fabrics to help tell the difference.  I forget the other things we had to do.  It would help if I remembered!  I don't think I have my book anymore, but the book posted above looks very helpful.
Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.
