DH found out that we will be going to Lejeune (our first duty station). He graduates from SOI on Nov 2nd. He doesn't know any info yet about the time frame we will be moving (well moving me and our crap out there). They haven't explained everything to him yet, but he thinks that he will have to in-process with his new unit, put in his request for leave to come home and move his family (anyone know if that is the way it goes?)
Since I can't talk to him until the weekends, is there anything I can do to start preparing for our move? I called the housing office but no one has been answering all day.
Is it true that if we are renting a house off-base that we have to have it approved through the housing office first? Is there anyone I can contact about how to start planning our move; we plan on doing a partial DITY (they pack and move our crap and we drive our car there).
I hate just sitting around twittling my thumbs if I could be doing something productive.
Sorry for the P&R but I'm running into a work thing. I will check back in a few hours!
Re: Is there anything I can do?
Yes, you have to get off base housing approved. There's not really anything you can do right now, hard as that may be. Your husband will have checklists and likely a sponsor to help point him in the right direction. Once he has some guidance, he'll be better able to delegate to you.
For now, I'd just make sure you've pared down the stuff in your house, donate or sell stuff that doesn't need to be moved, and start daydreaming about how you'll decorate your new home.
I would start cleaning out your closets and getting rid of anything you don't really need/want anymore.
Make sure you have all your paperwork together, birth certificates, marriage certificate, things like that. It'll make life easier later.
All this. I've been known to sit around with Google street view checking out my new town.
