*picks* or anyone with the le creuset steel stock pot
Am I remembering right that you have the enamel coated steel stock pot? Amazon has a pretty good price on the 8qt one right now and I'm thinking about getting it.
It's not as versatile as the dutch oven though right, this is lighter and can't go in the oven? Do you just use it for making pasta and soups? I've read a lot of reviews that the enamel chips pretty badly on these. Have you experienced this? Is it hand wash only?
More importantly, would you get it again?
Thanks!
Re: *picks* or anyone with the le creuset steel stock pot
i hate when enamel chips. it's soo annoying.
Hi! Sorry for the delay. Anyway, yes I own one of those, and I like it just okay. The enamel stains easily (DH does beans in it a lot and the starches stick like crazy), and I'd say to avoid using metal utensils in it if at all possible, because it will make marks. It works well for boiling water for pastas and such and making soups, but I also use my dutch oven for making soups. You can put it in the dishwasher, but I think dishwasher soaps are too corrosive for it, so we just hand wash it. The lady who sold ours to us said that if it had really bad stains that you can soak it in super hot water with a dishwasher detergent capsule thingy, and that would remove the stains, just to not leave it on too long. I tried baking soda and vinegar with a little salt for scrubbing (it acts as the abrasive), and it worked just as well, just used a little more elbow grease.
That being said, if you're getting a good deal on it, go for it. It's a nice, tall pot that fits long pasta noodles well, and heats quickly (although if you have a lot of water in it, it may take a while to come to a rolling boil).
HTH!
ETA: Would I get it again? Yes.
