I am in need of some restaurant recommendations! In the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area we had a good list of our favorite places to dine and knew of great happy hour or daily deals but have yet to get a list here in Des Moines. Maybe the new city, new job and new baby added to that, but after 3 months we are in need of some recommendations!
Any suggestions of places with good food & atmosphere? Even better if the locations has happy hour specials or a daily special!!!
Re: Restaurants!
Granite City is in Cedar Rapids, good food, and has a family type of atmosphere. And as a former employee, I will tell you their happy hour(s) rock! And spend the money and become a mug club member to get a % off your meal!
This has a pretty accurate list - in my opinion.

I'd say our all-time favorite is The Latin King.

my read shelf:
Jethros is fun for super casual- amazing bbq. Drake area or Altoona
Fong's/Dos Rios is great with a small group of friends
Centro/latin King/Skips/Nicks are my favorites for date night
Blue Moon Pinao Bar is fun for GNO with a larger group
Not sure about happy hour/specials- usually if I find a place I like, I don't care about the prices. Have fun exploring!
If you want some cheap yummy Vietnamese food, go to A Dong. Downtown-ish. SOOOOOO DELISH!
I also enjoy Wok in Motion (sushi), P.F. Chang (chinese), Mimi's Cafe (kinda like a fancier version of Perkins), Biaggi's (italian), and Palmer's Deli.
Dang, now I'm hungry.
I will 2nd Palmers and Jethros - theres a new one opening in West Des Moines w/ jambalaya we can't wait to try!
Fongs is really good too! Whenever my friend comes up from Atlanta she makes sure to stop there!
Also, we love Ohanas (wayyy better than Taki in my opinion - their scallops are the best you'll find!)
There used to be a chinese place in Valley Junction called Cafe Su - they were very retro and the food was great! I think they moved to somewhere on Ingersol now.
The new Zombie Burger downtown was fun too!
If you ever go to Ames - go to Hickory Park or Pazzesco!
Also if you like mexican, try Monterrey.
