Who is a Y member?

I am looking at getting a membership for myself, mostly just as a way to get out of the house and do something healthy. It mostly appeals to me because Michael could go to the childwatch and it seems they have more family amenities than something like Aspen Athletic. I would probably go to the Waukee Y.

Just looking for feedback! :o

Re: Who is a Y member?

  • I really liked being part of Walnut Creek.  Did so before kids, so not sure about the specifics around that.  The only thing I didn't care for was that the track was tiny, and I would rather run a track than a treadmill.  Also, the swimming (if you like swimming on your own) was hard to get a lane.  Otherwise, I was really happy with it for the money.  Not sure about Waukee site, but I would join the Walnut Creek site again if I can get my butt motivated to exercise!

Hope you are doing well, you are still in my thoughts!  Smile

  • We belong to the Waukee Y.  I like it and have been pleased with the Childwatch.  There are usually people there that know my kids' names which is comforting.  Also they are good about intervening if a little one is having a hard time separating.  We like the kids pool, but haven't used it near as much as we should.  When I go, I usually just do something on the cardio equipment.  I like it.

  • I like the Waukee Y a lot.   I feel they are very family oriented and offer a lot for the kids.   We are members, although we don't take advantage of it as much as I'd like to.
  • We are Y members (as you probably know, when you join one of the area Ys you can go to any other, beside healthy living center).  We actually did end up joining the healthy living center so that we could use that facility, but we end up going to waukee a lot to swim.  I am working 1 day/wk in childwatch to offset our membership costs.  We get quite a bit of use out of the Y.  We both prob go about 3-4 times/wk, and we swim weekly too.  Especially in the winter it is nice to have an option every evening.  The girls have done tumbling and swim lessons there as well.  I definitely think it is a great family activity.

  • I just saw on the DSM Register website that if you join by 10-31 they'll waive the $50 joiner fee

  • I love the Walnut Creek Y and am a member there.  I hear Waukee has an AWESOME facility!  I would say you can't go wrong!
