Seeing the poll and questions on china made me wonder about crystal. So, do you have crystal stemware? Do you use it? How often? How did you acquire it?
Last Christmas my mom gave me her crystal which she got as a wedding gift in 1947. We used the cordials to toast my DH new job after being unemployed for almost 2 years. We plan to have a formal dinner party near the holidays for some friends. That will be the first time we use several of the pieces.
Re: s/o china.. crystal
I have 4 Waterford crystal wine glasses I got as a wedding gift and never use them b/c crystal supposedly can't go in the dishwasher (it can pit the crystal and make it cloudy), and I'm too lazy to handwash things.
My mom said I could have her Waterford Lismore pieces, but I know they'll never get used for the same reason. Plus if anyone broke them I'd be super pissed.
Crazy Christmas Kids!
Me too. Even though the china comes out, the crystal usually stays in. I figure I should sell the lot of it somewhere but I know that some special people gave us those pieces.
I need more crystal, it's what I'm missing the most.
Amy, if your mom ever wants to sell hers, let me know!

Because I knew I wouldn't be registering for silver, we instead registered for a more formal-looking set of stainless (rrr already had 8 settings of a decent stainless). We keep it in the china cabinet silverware drawer, and only hand wash it.

We didn't register for crystal. It just wasn't my thing. We also just got stainless steel, but I love my set. We were gifted a set of everyday use flatware that we use now, and I save the stainless for when I pull out the china.
I have a full set of this pink floral china that was my grandmothers also. I've used the plates and teacups for a baby shower. My mom's china has little yellow flowers on it and she's got matching bronze-tinted goblets. They make me giggle...so 70's. My step-grandparents found her a set of gold-plated flatware at an auction recently that actually goes really well with her china. It isn't my sisters thing, so likely it will all end up in my house.
I didn't register for crystal. I knew we would have a hard enough time getting place settings from our registry so I prioritized those since we already had more wine glasses (for red and white) than we could actually use when hosting a dinner party.
However, another nestie sold hers to me for an awesome price so I have them but have not yet used them. They have platinum banding at the top but I'm not sure what pattern they are - I'd have to ask her!
