Does this ever work? (Halloween candy)
Last night I was starting to feel really guilty for deciding to not pass out candy to trick or treaters. This is the first year that it's worked out that someone will be home on Halloween night.
H and I are going to go out for dinner that night, but I'm thinking about leaving a bowl (I guess I'd have to go buy a cheap, plastic one at Target, in case someone takes my bowl?) full of candy out and a sign that says "take one"
Does that ever work or does the first kid take the entire bowl? (I was always the sucker that really did take 1) Or do I just not worry about it and not leave candy out at all?
Re: Does this ever work? (Halloween candy)
I guess I just don't have much faith in sugar hungry kids.
I'll put out a bowl to squash my guilt.
i used to be one of the kids that emptied the bowl
ETA: remember? i was *the* fat kid in elem school.

Most years, we leave treats out on our porch. We have not gone away for the whole night. We usually just leave to take my daughter trick-or-treating or to a neighborhood Halloween party. We do bowls of different things... chocolate in one bucket, sugary things in one, Mardi Gras beads in one, stickers in one. They sell big plastic bowls/buckets at Party City and Target. We've done this for 8 years. Usually, there is still something left when we get home.
It would be hilarious to set up a camera to see what happens (like the adults stealing the bowl of chocolates).

Sweet! Sounds like there's going to be a Nestie GTG at UW's house, even though UW won't be there!

My parents did that one year when it was on a Wednesday and we were not going to be there. Even before we left the house, some kids emptied the whole bowl.
They never did it again.
Edit: changed word
my currently-reading shelf:
For some odd reason some ominous music mixed with a demonic laughter starts to play in my head right after I finished reading that sentence...
