S/O - Halloween candy strategy

Do you buy Halloween candy you like to pass out, or do you intentionally buy stuff you don't like so you won't eat it?

Personally, not only do I buy what I like, but I buy too much (we probably don't get more than 15 kids) so I know I'll have leftovers. Devil

Re: S/O - Halloween candy strategy

  • I buy way too much of things people in my office eat.  I have a candy jar at my desk and certain things will get eaten while others will sit for months.  I have 4 bags of candy and we may get 1 trick or treater.

  • I buy 1 bag of assorted fun sized candybars, I wanted snickers and milky way, but it also came with almond joy (gross), we get maybe 5 kids, so they will be getting the almond joys :) I'm a terrible person, I know.
  • I buy the stuff I know I could handle to eat if I had to -- but I also  pass out two or three small bars per kid (our numbers vary each year....) so there's less left over.

I'l put out a plea now for any and all banana Laffy taffys -- I LOVE THEM! Banana only. I'l drive to get them from you. Like a crack deal in an unlit parking lot, it would be....

  • I buy things I like to eat, because we usually don't get many ToTers, so we never use up an entire bag of candy (not even one of the small bags). This year I bought a combo pack of Reese's and Almond Joy.

  • we don't get trick-or-treaters here and in nyc kids went to stores not apts/houses so i haven't bought candy for trick-or-treaters in years.

i bought candy my first few years in nyc and usually went with a mix of things that i liked and didn't. if i buy something i love, it does not last very long. i have the reese's mini pumpkins (which i do love) mostly for me but also in the off chance we have a few toddlers trick-or-treating.

  • We get tons of trick or treaters and last year went through over a hundred pieces of candy.  I tend to buy what I like so I can eat the leftovers in my lunch.  Lots of M&Ms, Reese's peanut butter cups and Hershey's chocolate.  Yum, yum.
  • We're in a new 'hood this year, but we hear it's the go-to Trick or Treat place for our town. So, we bought about 100 pieces; most of which either DH or I like but I am not confident we'll have any left over. Of course, DH has already been thinking of digging in to it, so we may be buying more before Monday.
  • we don't get any trick or treaters ( this will be our third year - first year we had 1 and the second year we had 0 )

but I spent like $20 on candy for DHs office -- I'm making them small bags this weekend !

  • We haven't bought any yet. We'll get it this weekend or Monday on the way home from work. That way there's no temptation to get into it ahead of time. In the past, we passed out candy and then went to a haunted forest, leaving the remaining candy in a box on our front steps. It was always empty when we got home. :-)

  • I bought all stuff I liked, which was probably a bad idea.  We just moved to our new house, but the neighbor says we don't get a lot of trick or treaters.  However, lesson learned from last year (the first year I have EVER gotten trick or treaters, including when I lived with my parents) - don't let them take their own.  Most kids are good, but I had one little brat that literally tried to take half the bowl.  He was old enough to know exactly what he was doing, too.
