CDC is now recommending that all boys at the age of 11 start getting the HPV Vaccine (Gardasil) that girls are already encouraged to get at the same age to prevent certain cancers.
Thoughts?
Will you vaccinate your child (boy or girl) when they are eligable to recieve the vaccine?

Re: Topic for Today
Absolutely.
HPV doesn't directly affect a boy... but they can be carriers. I'd love to think that my child won't have a sexual encounter until he's married --- but I can't control that. What I can control, is whether or not he's part of the HPV epidemic. If I can help do my small part to prevent a woman from ever experiencing ovarian cancer, then I will.

Became a family of three 8/25/09
Check insurance too. I'm sure it has changed by now but when I got it insurance only covered 2 of them. My parents had to pay some out of pocket and they aren't cheap.
I absolutely will, for all the reasons C listed. It will be at least 9 years before we have to worry about it. Hopefully there will be more information out there as to the benefits. According to the article there are a lot of diseases in men that are directly linked to HPV.
love is for every her, love is for every him, love is for everyone
I will.
Would I drive in a car without buckling my kid in? No. There might be an accident. There may not be an accident, which is most likely, but in that small chance, I will opt to protect my child.
That's the way I see it.
If it's mandated I'd be fine with that too. It's law to wear your seat belt too. (or have your child buckled up)
I will - lordy knows that child of mine will be trying to get his junk in whatever he can post puberty. Ugh. He's getting the shot - just to spare his floozies a nasty virus.
This reminds me of the line in Bridesmaids "I have 3 boys - there is semen EVERYWHERE. I cracked a blanket in half - literally, I cracked the blanket in half - you know what I am sayin?"
my little brothers got it for the reasons above.
