Anyone recently laid off? Vent & comments
Im a teacher/ was a teacher and thanks to the budget cuts, I was laid off this month.
I loved my job and my kids and it really sucks! This is week three being unemployed and I feel like I'm starting to lose it.
At first I was happy because now I'm a stay at home mom which I also love, but on the other hand I feel like I'm starting to panic. I'm not sure I'll be able to get back into teaching with the way districts in Texas are cutting. I've been skimming for jobs and it's ridiculous out there..... aren't there any salaried jobs anymore?
Uuuuugggh ...sorry I'm just nervous and frustrated

Re: Anyone recently laid off? Vent & comments
I got laid off, but I saw it coming. I have migraines and after the FMLA expired I was laid off (it's not really being fired, I think, because there is nothing negative in my file). So, I have three months to find something else. I am hoping to work part-time, although I need the full-work. I am completely with you when it comes to salaried positions. I am also finding a lot of full-time, no benefits.
I'm a nervous wreck, too. I'm sorry to hear about your job loss. It feels like we are one of many.
Yes, unemployment is!! Just calling when you have a question, etc is ridiculous. You get put on hold or told to call back another time. I had to give medical records etc when I first applied...Good luck!!
I moved from Dallas to Chicago (for my husband's job) right after graduating in 2009, got certified for Illinois and have been unable to even get an interview for a teaching job. The cuts and amount of debt in Illinois is disastrous!! I applied to 16 districts this fall and had one phone interview over the summer. I am nannying right now as I can't afford to randomly substitute.
I see you're in San Antonio and don't know if you would move around Texas, but I have a good friend teaching in Dallas ISD and they just got a decent sized grant to hire a bunch of new teachers.

When I was laid off 2 years ago I started blogging about it since I was going out of my mind and probably bordering on depression... it was an awesome outlet to help me deal with the day-to-day stress of not working.
You may want to consider something similar.. if you don't want it to be on line, journaling can sometimes help.
The link to my old blog is in my siggy.
Yeah, I was laid off about 2 months ago. I'm not a teacher, but I worked in education/with the public schools.
The worst part for me is that I can't pull DS out of daycare because if I DO find a job, it will be impossible to get him back in (waitlists). I've been doing a mix of sending him in and keeping him home, but I obviously am paying even for the days he's home. It suuuucks.
Meanwhile, on the days I'm home alone, I am bored out of my freaking mind. I've been looking for jobs like crazy, but it's so hard since I feel like I don't really know many people in the city. Ugh. I feel you.
