nontraditional "shower" gift help!

One of my best friends is about to get a 15 year old foster kid-boy-(it's the most amazing story!).  Our group of girlfriends wants to "shower" her, as she will be becoming a "mom" for the first time.  Our idea was to pool $$ and buy a Target gift card so they can use it to set up his room, etc. before he comes.

I have collected all the money but want to spruce up the gift a bit... maybe include it in a gift basket of sorts, but I don't know what else to put in there?

And any ideas on a cute poem or saying, explaining the reason behind everything?

Re: nontraditional "shower" gift help!

  • Maybe tickets for them to do something to bond together (or celebrate if they're already bonded), like movie tickets or Busch Gardens tickets depending on how much you want to spend?  That's all I got.  Sounds like a remarkable story!

ETA:  Didn't realize how far away you are from BG!

  • I was also going to suggest movie tickets, theme park tickets, etc.  What a huge experience - your friend sounds like a strong lady!
