Anyone have the heat on yet?

I try to wait it out as long as I can before turning on the heat or AC but these cold mornings are starting to get to me.  It's fine during the day, sometimes we still have windows open, but it's tough getting out of my cozy bed on these chilly mornings.

Anyone already cave?  If not, what's your game plan?

Re: Anyone have the heat on yet?

  • We don't have ours on but we also have fleece sheets so I'm still comfortable in the evenings.
  • We have our heat on, but mainly that's because we have a baby in the house. We turned our heat on this past Saturday.

  • This time of year is such a crapshoot. Sometimes we've had the AC on and sometimes we've had the heat on, and sometimes nothing. I'd be fine to keep the heat off for awhile, but with the baby, we're trying to keep the temp more consistent.

  • The temp in my house is 60* and it's ummmm kind of cold. But no heat yet. H is dying to turn it on but I am pressuring him to wait :) I hate heat. I would rather be cold. He did put his electric blanket on the bed last night which makes me want to die a little.
  • We turned ours on a few weeks ago, but turned it off since the temp raised back up. I've very close to turning it back on, but only to keep DD warm at night while sleeping.

  • We have it on to 66 or 67. But turn it off during the day. I hate having it on, but dh is a wimp.

  • I could go without heat until December...unfortunately we have an 8 month old who is battling a little cold.  If we left the heat off at night, his room gets bitterly cold.  So we have been for the past week or so, but only at night.

  • We have it set to turn on in the evening and then again in the am. We have it set a bit cooler at night. With the baby, we do keep it warmer than we did before, so now we have it set at 70 Stick out tongue

  • I've turned it on a couple of times, then turned it off. Same with the AC. Currently I have nothing on and it's 68* in the house.

  • We don't. We get full sun most of the day so I open all of the curtains/shades and it gets to about 75 so at night it only gets down to 62-65.
  •

We haven't turned the furnace on, but we do run a small electric heater in the most used rooms and keep their thermostats set on 65.  Just enough to keep the chill off.  We have oil heat, and when we checked on how much it would cost to fill our tank (over $700) that gave us a lot more determination to keep the heat off as long as possible!

  • We've had it on for a few weeks.  We turn it off if its not needed.  We're wusses and I have no issue using it.  I'm cold, so on it goes!

This is us, too. We also get a LOT of sun in the front of the house from about 10:30 until it sets. So I open up the blinds/curtains during the day and the sun keeps us pretty warm in the house. I think it also helps that we are not in an EOG TH. I'd say the house stays around 68* this time of year. Sometimes DH gets cold so he is walking around the house wearing his pajama pants, socks and a hoodie.

I normally this time of year get chilly in the evenings and use my Snuggie. But not this year with being so insulated!  Wink

  • No heat in October!  We've had our door open at night (sliding door in the bedroom) to get some air circulating.  We'll start closing that probably next week or so and then we can make it a few more weeks before turning on the heat.  We have a space heater that I use sometimes in the morning in the interim (between closing windows/doors and not turning on the heat.)

  • We only turned it on once, for a day or so back in September or early October when it was 40some degrees out. But we haven't had it back on since and I'm holding out til it's just too cold at night. We open the blinds during the day too, to get the sun in and that heat typically keeps us warm even after it's dark out.

  • We actually very rarely turn on the heat before December.  We're cushioned so unless we have a really, really cold day or snow it's an extra layer or an extra blanket.

  • We don't, and we've been perfectly comfortable - the house has only dropped to about 68 degrees so far.  DS's room has gotten a tiny bit chillier the past few nights, but that's mostly b/c we've been running his cool mist humidifier b/c of a nighttime cough he's got.  I've just been dressing him in his fleece pjs and he's been fine.

  • Nope, not yet. Long sleeves make it pretty comfortable.
  • our heat is not on and somehow its staying around 73 in our house, honestly i want to turn the ac back on. :)  I just love our BGE bills when they are so low.  Most recent bill was $128
  • Not yet! We always aim for Thanksgiving, but usually once it dips below 65 in the house we'll turn it on.  We keep the heat at 65, so there's no point in turning it on before then.

Right now I'm always hot, so maybe we'll make it to Turkey Day!
