I love my MIL. In general, my ILs are fantastic.
But, sometimes she doesn't make sense...she is a science teacher. We have asked folks that are going to be handling baby girl early on to be sure they get flu shots - I got mine, so she will have whatever protection I pass on, but my OB suggested everyone caring for her be vaccinated since she will be born during flu season.
MIL said, and I quote "It's not a big deal, little babies can't get sick".
Ummmm...they have unformed immune systems! She is refusing to get the flu shot from like CVS and is waiting another week to get it from her doctor (same price, don't get me started). Anyway, at least this year's flu shot is very similar to last year's and she did get it last year so she has some immunity.
le sigh.

That's crazy talk!!
But, I am not getting a flu shot, and neither is DH. Our parents might be, but I'm not sure and I won't ask. (the one and only time I ever got a flu shot I ended up with a severe reaction and had to go to the hospital - no thanks!!)

She is nuts!
I haven't ever gotten a flu shot, nor has Jeff, Brynn didn't last year and won't be this year either.
well, that is a different situation if you had a reaction. I get it every year - the one year I couldn't get it I got the flu and nearly missed two weeks of work.
Did you talk to your OB about it? Mine strongly suggested I get it (obv she would not for you b/c of a previous reaction) and she still asks at every freaking appt if K got his (which he did weeks ago). They are really big on the "cocoon effect" or whatever - if he doesn't have a history of issues, you might want DH to get his...Feb is still flu season.
I have an allergic reaction to the flu shot, too!

yeah she is nuts if she thinks that little babies are safe.
That being said, I got one when I was pregnant because Lucy would be born during flu season, but I was pressured into it.
I hadn't had one before that.
Lucy and I didn't get one last year and we won't this year. I'm not sure if DH got his last year (he usually gets them)
I think it's totally up to you whether you get it /your kids/family get it, but it's silly if she thinks they are somehow immune to it
CRAFTY ME
my read shelf:
I have been getting mine for several years now due to my family history of diabetes and my own pre-diabetes diagnosis. Maddy had her 1st one last November (followed by a 2nd shot in December, they do 2 shots for the 1st year for any mommas having babies getting it for the 1st time) and had her flu shot yesterday. Last winter Maddy and I had no issues with sickness and DH was down and out for a few days with something.
Baby will get some protection from you while you are breastfeeding and if you do get sick with something unless you have been given medication that is unsafe for baby don't let your doc try and pressure you to not BF. I had a bad sore throat in January and I went and got it checked for strep considering how fast it came on and the doc tried to tell me it would be best for me to quit BF while I was sick. Ummmm no thats how baby gets the antibodies!
