Anyone have this happen?

So, I am due in 2 days (yay!) and couldn't wait until the babe was ready to make an appearance until today.  Kellen caught croup and the ob and ped are both recommending that we make sure he doesn't come in to contact with the baby until he is symptom free.  Yikes!  So, my DH and my plan so far is to have my DH with me during birth, and then later that day, he will take Kellen to his sister's in Glenwood and be with him until Kellen is better.  Which sucks, because then I have to get my dad out here early (from Omaha) to drive me home from the hospital!

Anyone have a sick kiddo and then give birth?  Any stories/guidance to share?

Also, Kellen's time with croup has been sporatic, either lasting 3 days to a week.  How long does croup normally last?  We are getting a steroid today.

  • Wow, I can't believe it's time already!  I'm sorry to hear Kellen is sick.  Both of my kids have had croup in the last 2 weeks.  The steroid seems to do wonders.  The first time Maya had croup she didn't get the steroid and she was in bad shape for over a week.  Since then, I've always had my kids get the steroid.  With this round, their barky cough only last 1-1 1/2 days.  I don't quite understand when they are contagious though.  My kids were around my nephew with no barky cough and no fevers, but he still got it.  It's likely from my kids because he's really not around anyone besides my sister and parents.  Sorry I'm not much help.  I would probably check with your pedi to play it safe.  Good luck!

  • Wow! I can't believe it's already time! EXCITING!

My advice for you is to get some major relaxation in now. Bath, wine, foot rub, massage, etc...

It sounds like you guys have a plan that will work even if it's not ideal in all ways. In all honesty, if your dad can't drive you home, I'd be more than willing to pick you up from the hospital and help you get settled in (cook food, walk dog, etc...)---the doula in me would enjoy doing that. If you want to take me up on my offer, go ahead and shoot me an e-mail.

  • Ditto, if you need a ride home, call me! We live pretty close to both hospitals, I'd love to get to hold a snuggly little squishy baby too! :)

If you need anything let me know!

  • You guys are all so great!!  Thank you!  I may be taking you up on your offer!!

Just went for appt this am.  Not dilated, effaced or engaged at all, so NST scheduled for Friday, and maybe induction next Wed.  Fingers crossed that Kellen is better by then!

    Thanks for all the support!
