Savannah, GA

A few of you live around here, right? M and I are thinking of driving there tomorrow (about 2.5 hours) for the day to check out some of the sights but we're pretty clueless as to what to look for. We want to see some historical sights and scenery, eat a good lunch and maybe a little shopping. We are hoping to walk most of the day but aren't sure if that's possible. Do you all have anything you recommend??

We plan on going again for a long weekend type thing, but are antsy to see some things now!

Re: Savannah, GA

  • The River front is a very pretty walk and has lots of little places to eat and enjoy the water.  I would suggest if you want something cheap and easy Vinnie Van Go Go's pizza is really some of the best I have had.  They are a cash only place but in a really cool little square with again a bunch of shops and places to look at.

They have a lot of tours (walking and carriage tours) which gives you a lot of historical information.  If you were staying the night I would stuggest that haunted tour.  Oh the "Forrest Gump Church" is down there as well.  A little note, the bench he sat on was not there until after the movie was made.  HAA

     Enjoy! I love Savannah!

  • I would love to take one of the haunted pub crawl tours! The waterfront area is really pretty, as is Forsythe Park and the surrounding homes.

I heart Savannah, and I'm sure Tx will have some great suggestions.

I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.
  • Thanks guys! I think we're going to check out the riverfront and see where that takes us. I'm not telling M about the haunted tours and things because he will drag me along and I don't do well with haunted/scary things.  I thought Scream was terrifying! Haha
  • Got married in Savannah! lol Love it... Forsyth Park is a must see! Riverwalk and church hills pub.. Have fun
  • Hey, I live in Savanah.  Grew up here.  There are some great places to check out.  You can pretty much walk most of the Historic District.  I would suggest you head to the Visitor's Center first thing.  There are several trolley tours there.  A few of them offer a $10 ticket for 2 days of hopping on and off.  You an get on the trolley, hop off, tour around and then hop back on another one that comes by.  You learn a good bit about the city and the history.

For lunch, my favorite place is SoHo South Cafe on Liberty St near Drayton.  So yummy!  My second favorite place is Vinnie Van Go-Go's.  They have fabulous pizza. It's in City Market.  Be sure to bring cash, they don't accept plastic.

If you have any other questions, let me know.
