Recent Purchases

I've been pretty good about not spending money lately (particularly on eating out), but I did splurge on some new workout gear from ON, thanks to Shauni mentioning a 30% off sale. I ordered a size up on everything because of the online reviews, so I'm going to include how that worked out.

1. Black compression tank -  glad I ordered a size up.  The compression is pretty tight but not uncomfortable, IMO.  The one issue I have with this tank, and the other I bought, is the built-in padding.  Built-in bras are annoying enough, since I still need a sports bra, but padding?  It was just weird.

image

2. Non-compression tank - Probably could have ordered my usual size, but the straps are adjustable so it's fine.  Again, the padding is so weird.

image

3. Compression capris - OMG where have these pants been all my life?  I don't understand how something this tight can be this flattering on me AND not give me a muffin top, but seriously, they are AWESOME.  I'm assuming it's good I ordered a size up, because they are tight and I can't imagine them being smaller.

image

4. Compression pants - same review as the capris, except they're cuter and not quite as tight.  They're more like super-flattering yoga pants.

image

5. Running shorts - I definitely could have ordered these in my regular size.  They're not falling off or anything, but if I had tried them on in store I would have gotten them smaller.  NBD though, they're running shorts.

image

6.  Fleece hoodie - I love how soft this is, and I love the thumb holes and the length (which doesn't ride up higher than my pants when I sit down).  It would be a home run if it actually ran small, like the reviews said - if it wasn't such a hassle to exchange, I would get this in my size, but I'm lazy.  It's cute and I know I will be wearing it often, but it's somewhat shapeless so one size up is really too big. Also, this was kind of cheating since I won't really be wearing it to exercise, ever, despite the fact that it's categorized as 'activewear'.

Re: Recent Purchases

  • Nice!  I almost bought both of those pairs of pants, then reconsidered b/c I was afraid of how my thunder thighs would look in them.  :-P

I ordered this dress in this really pretty green color, but they apparently don't have it in stock so they sent me this bland brown instead (see FB for my rant on that one.  Ugh.)

    image

I also got a pair of fleece pants for yoga/being lazy, which I can't seem to find on their website now.  Take my word for it, they look comfy and awesome. :-)

  • Rachel I LOVE that dress!  I like that color too!

Laura, thanks for the reviews, this will be helpful when it comes to my shopping trip this weekend :)  My only question is if the tights stay up when you run, sometimes my tights slip down.  Thanks!

  • Laura, your post has my head going "Don't jiggle it. When you wiggle it."

    Stupid ON commercials.

I'm going to need some maternity clothes soon. I'm trying to hold off as long as I can, but I don't know how long that will be. And once I get maternity clothes, I'm going to buy tons of flats and accessories (SCARVES!) to go with everyone. I cannot wait. So yeah, I'm holding off and wanting to do it OMGNOW!

OMFG!!! I had this song stuck in my head all weekend!  It was gone, but now it's back in my heda so thanks QOA...lol.

Sunshine- I love that dress and am liking that color.  Yeah, I'm addicted to dresses.  Did they even bother telling you the green was out of stock?

Xtine- Am loving the baby stuff.

No new purchases for me yet.  I got my 40% ON coupon which I plan on using Friday to get myself some new jeans.  I need to get my true size and not my old size because I think I will "lose weight" to fit into them, that never happens.

I guess it's not that I don't like the color.  It's just that I have a lot of muted earthy tones in my wardrobe already and I was looking forward to something bright to give it a little pop. :-)

And no, they didn't tell me it was out of stock.  I just went to look at my shipping confirmation on ON's website this morning.  It says on the order tab that I ordered in green, but on the shipped tab it says they shipped in brown.  No warning or anything.  Jerks. :-P

  • I actually like the color, Rach, but I totally understand what you're saying.  I have to make a conscious effort not to buy certain colors.

Shauni - I will wear them for my workout tonight and report back.  I'm going to be running on the elliptical and treadmill, not 'real' running, but hopefully that will be ok for comparison. I gotta say, though, I don't see how these can fall down.  And I don't remember who brought it up, but they really do minimize thunder thighs!

Aaaaaand now I have that jingle stuck in my head.

  • Uh, Mooooo - I just bought this:

    image

I'm on the fence about buying home-grade vs. renting hospital-grade for a pump, so I bought this manual one on Baby Steals just now to tide me over, and so that I don't spend $300 if it turns out I can't BF or something.  Also, this would be small enough for me to take with us to PA in December.

  • Sunshine - that dress is super cute!  That's ON, too?  I really want to go regular clothes shopping again.

I think I am renting one from the hospital first because I don't want to spend that kinda money on one and not be able to bf. I should get a manual one though.

  • Laura, we are twinsies on the pants, except I got the pink/black ones.  Now I'm nervous, b/c I ordered a size DOWN!  Eek, muffin top city.  We'll see though.  And I ALMOST bought that hoodie!  Seemed a little pricey for not being able to try on and judge at the time.  Maybe if it goes on sale and I have a coupon, I will snatch it up.

    Also got:

To match the pants (not that I would EVER wear w/o a shirt though..)

In Gray and White.  They're touted in their activewear line, but they're still all cotton.  If I weren't such a sweaty beast, I could wear to gym, but pit stains are prevalent and not my friend, so I may just wear as regular tees.

Also got an LB GC for my bday, so I got:

Full figure Distinctly Boot Crash wash jean

Wide leg trouser with Right Fit Technology

I have a side note on these LB pants pics.  They have the models wear petite or average, and I get the TALL, so my hemline doesn't look like these.

    Xtine-loving the stroller/car seat! Adorable :)

  • Brew - yay twinsies!  I ALMOST got the pink, but I have more blue-ish stuff to coordinate.  See how you like the pants.  They are NOT as tight as the capris, so they might be ok in my normal size.  I was super unsure about the compression line, so after reading the reviews for the capris I just assumed I would need to size up in the other pants.  The waistband is  not as tight, though, which will prevent muffin top.  I'm also sorta between sizes, I think, so sizing down for me is more like sizing 1.5 sizes down - you might be good!

I have just a manual pump and as long as your supply is good, you may find that's all you need. I haven't gone back to work yet, so I haven't had to deal with a pump then, but I did go away for a night and I was able to pump plenty the week leading up with little effort. IMO don't waste the money on that when there are plenty of other things that are way more fun :)

If you think you'll want a manual, I'd look at BabySteals!  They do two deals a day, so this one is up until this evening or they sell out.  The ladies on their FB page say this is a good deal.  Apparently Target sells this model for about $35 but it doesn't have any of the extras.

Thanks!  Yeah, I won't be working until about 6-8 weeks pp, and then I'll be working from home for up to 10 weeks, so I'm not even sure if I'll pump/continue BF'ing after I really go back to work work, so this seems like a nice compromise.

I imagine I'll end up buying a manual, as I plan on waiting to see if BF'ing actually works for me til I get an electric. If it is working, I will definitely be getting a nice one since I'm going to have to pump when I go back to work and would plan on BF'ing for at least a year.

I have no idea. I've browsed at Destination Maternity and I think I agree with your assessment. I've looked at Gap, ON and Target online and I think I'll probably get from a mix of those three. There are also a few really awesome thrift stores around here that I might check out. H said it's worth the dry cleaning if I find stuff for 50% less or more.

I've been looking for a maternity winter coat and most of them blow and will do absolutely nothing for me in an Upstate NY winter. I would hate to shell out major moola for something I'll only wear for two seasons at most.

One nice thing about the Gap stuff is that it's machine washable.  Like the work pants - I usually wear BR suits/separates, and they're all dry clean only, but the Gap work pants, which are really very similar, can just be washed and dried.  Score!

I didn't look much at Target because I found the sizing was really bizarre, like XS was too big.

I bought some things at ON like tank tops and tees, but the quality isn't great.
