FML- The board curse continues

My hours just got significantly cut at work. Another downside to working for a new start up company? Sometimes the business just isn't what you hope it will be. I have to take a $1500 a month cut. They're hoping it will only be for 2 months and really that's why they're keeping me around at all. Basically they're putting off hiring someone we were going to hire and reducing my hours to help us get through a rough patch and hoping that they can come out the other side of it with me still as their employee. They said they completely understand if I walk and that they will work to help me find a job, but that they hope I'll stay.

The thing is, if I got a full time offer, I'd take it in a heartbeat, but there's not a great chance of that right now. As you all know too well, the market sucks. I feel like my only option is to stay and try to supplement the income. So, if any of you have any part time (or full time obviously) job leads let me know. I have admin, sales and marketing experience (but will only leave for a full time position that's marketing related.)

I also feel so guilty. I know I didn't do anything, but DH already feels pressured as the main breadwinner. I hate to do this to him. This sucks.

  • Oh wow. I'm so sorry. Fingers crossed business picks up and you get your hours back soon.

  • I'm sorry. :(

Don't beat yourself up about it being your fault even though you know it's not. My office hires part time people every now and then for processing. I have no idea if you would be interested, but I'll let you know next time it comes up.

  • Sorry :(

I'll let you know if I hear of any openings.

  • I'm sorry :(

I don't know if you'd be intersted, but sometimes you can find some part time sitting jobs on sittercity.com.

  • I'm so sorry to hear that!
  • Ugh. I'm sorry. If I hear of anything I'll definitely let you know.

  • Thanks, ladies! I appreciate the support and you guys keeping your eyes open for anything. So far I've filled out 7 applications and now I'm getting ready to open a bottle of wine.

I know that with so many people losing jobs in this economy I'm lucky to have a job at all, it just stinks. Hopefully it will lead to bigger and better things. :)

  • Sorry to hear about your current situation.  Since it happened through no fault of your own, take this opportunity to really hunt for something you like.  It sounds like you're going down the right path by sending some applications out, I'd also look for a headhunter that specializes in marketing and work with them as well.
  • Ugh, that sucks! I hope you find something to supplement or replace your income. I will definitely keep an ear out.

Thanks. The headhunter is definitely a good idea. I'm really trying to look at the positives. 1) Hopefully I can find something that is a better fit for me and my career goals and 2) I guess I should be flattered that they're trying so hard to keep me in any way shape or form since they really can't afford to. I see the business and payments that come through every month so I had a feeling this might happen and had started looking as a back up a few weeks ago. I need better job security and I'm trying to tell myself that this is a push in the direction of bigger and better things. Thanks for the support, ladies!

  • Oh man, I'm really sorry!  Maybe it's a blessing in disguise and you'll find something that you're truly passionate about :) Fingers crossed for you and of course, if I see something that I think might interest you, I'll definitely share the info!

  • Let me know if you'd like me to look over your resume for constructive criticsm.  I don't mind and enjoy doing it.
  • Thanks! I know it could definitely benefit from some criticism. I don't think I have it saved on this computer, but I'll look and if not, I'll get it to you tonight. :)
