Looks like Baby B is probably going to be arriving via scheduled c-section on 11-10-11. I'm totally terrified. I had a v-birth with Will and had no reason to believe I'd have a c-section this time until this silly breech baby refused to flip. Have any of you ladies had c-sections? Can you tell me what to expect in terms of recovery? Also, how long after your surgery did you have to wait until you could cuddle your baby?

Re: C-Section Mamas?
I have no advice about a C-section? but hello to my November momma!!
I?m so jealous you?re getting to go before me!! I?m so done being pregnant!!
Ahh, good luck with the c-section. They wouldn't let you deliver on 11-11-11? Darn nurses.
My Niece in law had a c section along with my Sister in Law and they seemed to be able to see the baby within the hour. My brother and my nephew were by the baby's sides right away though. They both seemed to have easy recoveries but as you know, everyone is different.
On a side note: After you girls come me and I'm super nervous (but excited!) about that...
There's still time for you to go first! I'm with you - soooo sick of being pregnant!!! But, we're full-term this week!!!! Yay!

Have you looked into working with a chiropractor or acupuncture to encourage the kiddo to flip? Also, will your OB not attempt a breech vaginal delivery? I discussed breech positioning a lot with my mdwives and they will do a vaginal delivery of a breech baby and strongly encourage both acupuncture and working with a chiro to get LO to turn.
Just a suggestion!
Thanks! The doctor actually tried for 11/11/11 an the nurse said they are overbooked and I could get bumped or just be delivering in a totally understaffed hospital - that made me happy with 11/10/11 instead - still a really cool due date.
I can't believe your next! Time really flies.

I've got an acupuncture appointment on Wednesday and am trying a lot of at home positions to encourage the baby to flip - hopefully it will work! My doctor won't clear a chiro or a vaginal breech delivery b/c of my other complications.

Oh that would be wonderful to go before my due date. Yay for being full term this week- I go to the doc on Wed... hoping for some good news that I'm at least dialated or something!
My c-section was not fun, but that was because I had a panic attack during it. This is not typical at all, so I wouldn't stress too much about that. Something I didn't anticipate though, is when they give you the spinal, you can't feel yourself breathe, and to me that I was a very scary thing.
After I was done, I had to stay in recovery until I could wiggle my toes which took about an hour. They then took me to my postpartum room, and they brought the baby too me once I was settled in my bed so that I could begin nursing.
Recovery was great! I was up walking around about 24 hours later. Once the staples came out about a week later, I really started to feel better.
Good luck!!!
I was competently terrified of ending up with a c-section, but in all honesty, it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be. I labored hard on pitocin for 9 hours before, so I was just ready for it to be over! It all happens so fast and I think the worst is just waiting to be "closed up" after. The spinal was a little weird, especially the shaking, but more so just the part of not feeling your body...I didn't have the breathing problems that Rachael mentioned.
I was probably in recovery for an hour or so, and it was maybe an hour or 2 before I was able to see Kyle. Looking back, I would have insisted that they bring Kyle to me in the recovery room. We had a really hard time nursing for the first few days and I think he would have latched on better if we had tried right away, so if you plan on nursing, I'd look in to that.
I wasn't able to get out of bed for a while, but I had blood pressure and platelet issues because of the HELLP syndrome. I think the norm is that they want you up moving 24 hours after. It hurts at first, but the more you get moving the better you start to feel.
All in all, I think C-Sections are given a bad wrap, (especially online! evil Bump!) and they aren't nearly as awful as you might think. Good Luck!!!
