What's on your shopping list

when you go back home/to the US?

Since I'm leaving so soon, I've been thinking of what I'll need to buy and came up with this list:

- jeans

- spicy mustard powder in bulk

- affordable business clothes

- a sausage stuffer

- fondant smoothers

- BBQ seasoning (my favorite one for ribs)

- toothpaste

- flannel pajamas

- deodorant

- an evening bag

This really isn't the strangest list I've ever had.

So what's on your list?

Re: What's on your shopping list

  • imageNLfoodie:

    - toothpaste

Can I ask why? So far in Asia and France I've been able to find the toothpaste I normally use or find a good substitution.

I'm not going back soon, but normally on my list:

    - Stuff from the persian food store that I can't buy here

    - Dental floss - the same floss is 6 euros here and in Canada it is about 1 dollar!

    - Lipton Chicken noodle soup

    - Bras

    - Clothes for M

    - Make-up, one mineral powder that I can't get here and the rest because it is so much cheaper.

  • If I went home, I would get:

a bag of butterfinger fun size candy

bags of chocolate chips, peanut butter chips and butterscotch chips

and some good Christmas decoration for cookies, like colored sugars, mini-M&M, and other good candies that are green, red and white.

The type I like/use is nowhere to be found here, not even close (mentadent dual whatever, since I got used to that toothpaste, many years ago, I haven't ever wanted to go back. It's one of those toothpastes that takes a while to get used to, but once you are, it's just great.

Oh and I'll buy bras and cosmetics as well, see, it's a good thing I'm starting a list and asking about it here, or I'd forget things!

I used to get all kinds of chocolate chips and stuff from the US as well, until I got a 'Sligro card'. Sligro actually has decently priced real chocolate chips (actually used by chocolatiers) so I replace my nestle's chips with callebaut :-)

a bag of butterfinger fun size candy

My mom is sending over a care package right now with Butterfingers!! I miss them so much! :-) We're lucky to have a lot of candy here - but not those!! We're also getting candy corn, heath bars and choc covered marshmallow pumpkins :-)

From the US, I normally buy sulfate free shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste (I like Crest Cinnamon flavored!), and tums, tylenol, etc. Clothes and such we can buy/order here.

  • Drugs! Excederin, Advil PM, allergy meds, fever reducer for DS.

Salad dressing (I use the packets of Italian that you mix w/oil and vin)

    Sauces--BBQ, H 57, Chalula,

Cans of Manwich for DH LOL!

  • Things I would get:

-candy corn.. omg, Jenny. Thanks for reminding me of my craving.

    -tootsie rolls

    -kraft mac & cheese

-deodorant (thankfully my mom just brought me some.. Dove deodorant is for the birds)

    -tylenol pm

    - red vines

The majority of things I can think of are kinds of candy. That's embarrassing. :)

  • Excedrin Tension Headache - the huge asz bottles that you can get at Sams, a few medicine syringes and clothes for D, bras, hanes socks (I prefer the ankle height socks, and I have to buy them in children's sizes because I don't like loose socks).

Lots and lots of candy. Chocolate chips in every flavor, karo syrup, andes mints for baking, twizzlers, reeses pb cups and orange slices. OMG orange slices are so sugary but sooo delicious.

  • - drug/vitamins

    - clothes

    - my body wash

these are the usuals. This upcoming trip I had a few special items, such as an alarm clock/sound machine (DH is a light sleeper), and memory foam mattress pads for our bed (sensing a theme here). But I don't know if we can fit all this stuff. Might have to try and find substitutes here, though will have to look harder.

Oh and I want to get one of those recordable children's book to bring to DH's new nephew in Italy. Figure it's the only way I can get him an English book and ensure it's being read properly!

  • Our list has gotten a lot smaller lately as we've just gotten used to the stuff we can get here. We do still bring a whole extra suitcase home though!

We stock up on basics at Old Navy (I layer tanks with everything and they have my favourites). Usually a couple bags of whatever candy looks yummiest at the time (Sour Patch kids, Swedish fish, etc), Kraft Mac & Cheese, spices from Penzey's (ranch dressing spice, etc). I stock up on meds, I think it's hilarious to get advil 12 at a time so I get the gigantic bottles at Target...

We get sneakers (running sneakers are like half the price!) and jeans for DH when we need them. After a few years, I stopped buying real clothes (besides my Old Navy day!) since it's just a bit stressful finding the time to go shopping. I'd rather do it here when I have the right amount of time.
