long underwritting process

Our file went to underwritting a WEEK ago and we still haven't heard anything back. I contacted our loan processor Wednesday for an update and she said that she hopes to get credit approval by Friday (today) or Monday at the latest.

Is it normal for this process to take so long? Or is this a bad sign?

Re: long underwritting process

  •

Don't jump to the conclusion that it's a bad sign; however, I will say that seems pretty long.

We did our application, got all of our documents - and we were underwritten and approved in 3 days.

Did you have submit additional documents or was the application in complete? If that is the case, that may hold things up. Also, with ours - the real live underwriter was right there....in some cases, LO have to send it 'away' to be processed.  That may take extra time...

  • We haven't been asked for any additional paperwork, so I am assuming they have everything they need. I do know they needed to send it away. Also, it's an FHA loan and we are getting a state government bond for the downpayment, so maybe this is contributing to the delay?

We did our inspection yesterday, I hate moving forward with all the house stuff and not knowing for sure if we are approved.

  • It's probably because it's FHA. We are doing a USDA loan and were told last week that it takes 8 days of underwriting.

I feel your pain. Our deadline is coming up SOON and we are at the edge of our seats waiting on this. This is SOOO stressful.

  • I've also heard that due to the number of re-fi applications coming in that underwriting is swamped - normally turn around is 3 days...now it's 5-7 days (we're waiting as well even with a convential loan).
