My aunt had her double mastectomy today. My mom said it went well and she is recovering right at this moment. The doctor didn't find any cancer in the lymph nodes which is a huge relief, but did say both breasts were "covered" in cancer. They don't feel 100% that they got it all so they are recommending a round of radiation as well. She will probably have a skin graft because of all the tissue they had to take.
Since it is breast cancer awareness month, have you done your monthly check ladies? Pull the girls out and get to it (well I guess you can wait until you get home tonight)! Early detection can save your life!

Re: Aunt update
Glad the surgery went well and that it wasn't in the lymph nodes! I hope they got it all and/or the radiation kills the rest of it!
Yes, I did do my monthly check--right after I got my period--I've heard it's the best time to do it because your breasts aren't engorged like they are before your period.
So glad they didn't find any cancer in the lymph nodes. I hope the radiation therapy kills the rest of the cancer and your aunt recovers from her surgery quickly and rather painlessly.
I do a check once a week. I'm so paranoid about breast cancer since it runs rampant in my family, that I'm acutely aware of any changes in my breast tissue.
Glad things went well and I hope that the radiation takes care of whatever is left. Lots of vibes for a quick recovery.
After finding lumps in the past, I'm frequently checking my breasts for anything new. I hope that every woman gets into the habit of monthly checks.
