Anyone know of Colombo, Sri Lanka?

DH and I are planning a dive trip to the Maldives, and we figured since we have to shell out a lot of money for the flights - and who knows when we'd ever make it out to that part of the world again - why not check out the nearby area? Sri Lanka is an hour flight from where we need to be for the dive trip. We're thinking about going early and spending two days in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Anyone heard of it? Know anything about it?

I'm a little nervous to go somewhere completely random by ourselves...

We're headed to the Maldives on Christmas Eve!

Holiday

Re: Anyone know of Colombo, Sri Lanka?

  • Haven't been, but ExH and I were tossing around the idea of taking his family to Sri Lanka for holiday one year. Instead of staying in Colombo, our plan was to go and stay near the beach for a little while.

  • I was in Sri Lanka over the summer. I wouldn't hang out in Columbo, it is just another city. Instead I would head south along the west coast of the island to Bentota, Galle, or Hikkaduwa. I blogged about the trip here:

    Sri Lanka ? 1
    Sri Lanka ? 2
    Sri Lanka ? 3

I wouldn't worry about going to Sri Lanka. It was a pretty easy place to travel. We decided to hire a driver and there were many people who spoke English.

Another option, which we didn't do, would be to go to Kandy instead for a more outdoorsey experience rather than a beach one since you are going to The Maldives anyway.
