Turkey

How much does a turkey usually cost at Thanksgiving?

Due to family drama and the like, I'm cooking Thanksgiving this year. For the first time ever.

We have our milk, eggs, and meat delivered to us from Crescent Ridge. They just sent me this email, and if it is just a little more expensive (like I expect it is) but not twice the price of normal turkeys at Thanksgiving then I'll order.

Crescent Ridge Dairy is excited to offer fresh, free-range turkeys fromMisty Knoll Farms in Vermont.

Whole Turkeys:  Weigh 18-22 pounds and will feed 15-20.  (We will not be able to take specific weight orders)$4.09 per poundBone-In Turkey Breast:  Weigh 6-7 lbs.$42.99Deliveries of the Farmer's Choice Turkey will beginNovember 20th along with your regular milk order.

Re: Turkey

  • $40 or $50 if I remember right! They aren't cheap!

  • Oh good! So that's probably a good deal for a fresh, free-range turkey, right?
  • I think we paid about $25 for 6-8 pound one at Whole Foods ones last year (the free-range one).

Hmm... Was it frozen? Does fresh vs frozen make a big difference?

I am so going to fvck up Thanksgiving lol.

  • I think it was fresh.  But don't quote me. I just pulled up their page, and they aren't listing them yet. I think it was fresh, free-range and brined.

I'd guess fresh would be better.  But up until last year when I cooked at home, my mom always bought Butterball, so I'm hardly an expert!  Wink

I just texted MIL who always buys free range and HUGE ones at that and she said last year she paid about $60 for hers.

    Thanks Punky!

I think I'll just do it. H has less of a clue than I do, so I'll tell him it was cheap hehe

  • I just googled "How much does a Thanksgiving turkey cost" and it popped up with a wiki answers "How much does a mammogram cost in Turkey" lol

This is totally my fear and why I always offer to host Christmas instead of Thanksgiving.  It's way less intimidating for some reason.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

I agree. But I am making my sisters help and my dad will eat turkey that wasn't cooked well, so I feel like I won't be entirely to blame, KWIM? But we'll see.

That week we have DS's birthday on Wednesday, Thanksgiving Thursday, birthday party Sunday. Craziness.

  • Honey Baked Ham has a 12lb turkey for $50, and it's already cooked....just an idea.

I am exhausted (and in food coma!) just reading that!
