So here is how my day played out yesterday:
I went to work, all was normal. My mom picked DD up at daycare around 10:00 so she could spend the day with her (pre-planned). I got a frantic call around 12:45 from her that she had taken DD to the mall and lost her car key, so I needed to come pick them up and take them to my house so DD could go down for a nap. I had already told my mom that DD needs to go down by 1:00, especially now because of the whole transition to a bed, and needing to put her down in her window. I raced out, picked them up, but we didn't get home until 1:30. DD was a mess; putting her down was a disaster. I stayed home to do it because I knew my mother wouldn't know what to do. She didn't end up going down until 3:00 (!), but slept for 1.5 hours, so got a decent nap.
In the meantime, my dad drove down from MD to give my mom her spare key and take her back to the mall to find her key and get her car. She came back to my house, but couldn't bear to hear all the crying, so she went home. She neglected to tell me when she left that she locked the bottom lock on the door from our garage to the house, which we never lock. When DD and I went outside later, I went to get her sweatshirt and, lo and behold, it was locked. I then called many locksmiths and ended up waiting 2 hours and paying $230 for some to come drill out the door handle so we could get in. DD was a mess, I was pissed, and now I'm out $230 and look like a slacker at work because I was MIA all afternoon.
Of course, because my mother is who she is, the words "I'm sorry" never once escaped her lips, but my father did call later to let me know they would pay for the locksmith. Ugh.
Re: My day yesterday - long and whiny
"What is a week-end?"
That really sucks!!! What a rough afternoon.
I hope today is better. Maybe a ice cream is in order since it will be the last warmish day we have for a while.

UGH! Calling and paying for a locksmith is one of my most hated things to do in the world! And they aren't the quickest people on the planet! I'm so sorry about your day!
Ugh, that sucks - what a crappy day! Hopefully your office understands that sometime these things happen...
If it makes you feel any better, I once locked myself out late at night when I was living at home - you could open the door from the house to the garage from the inside if it was locked, but the door would then lock behind you. I ended up having to break down the door to get back in (FYI, if you kick just to the side of the door knob, the bolt will drive through the door frame, assuming it's a wooden frame).
