I need to hunt around some more but I'm looking for some indoor photography lighting ideas WITHOUT purchasing photography lighting.  Have you seen any tricks for this?  I know I've seen articles but I'm not finding them on my quick searching this morning.

I volunteered to run a photo booth for our youth group's Halloween party and now I'm realizing it's inside and at night and I'm not sure what I should do for lighting!

Re: *Cipolla*

  • What kind of camera do you have?

  • I have a Canon 20D and I don't have an external flash right now -- just the little pop up one.  I'll find out Sunday how the lighting will be at the party.  I'm thinking it's going to be fairly low and I'll have to figure out some lighting just for the area we'll be doing the photos.  I'll have time to do some internet hunting tomorrow or Sunday night so no worries if you don't have any thoughts or leads!
  • Do you have a camera store near you that rents flashes?  If so, I would rent the Canon 580 EX.  Don't use a pop up flash....this flash also comes with white balance card so you can bounce your flash so it's not directly onto their face...and it comes with a diffuser that you can fold down over the flash.  I know the camera shop near me rents it for $20 a day.

  • I had a manual flash a model or two below the 580 but it broke and I have been lagging to fix it because I hardly ever have camera play time anymore and I never do jobs so it's not necessary.  I never thought of renting one!  That's a great idea.  I'll look into that this weekend too!

Don't use a pop up flash....

By the way, I wish they wouldn't even make those dumb pop up flashes -- I loathe them.

  • There are certain models that don't have them Big Smile  Were you able to find one to rent?  If not, you can always rent from an online shop too.  If you need some names just let me know.
  • I found several online options but because of shipping, I think it's going to be more than I want to spend (being a bit of a cheap-o these days).  I don't have any close camera shops but I have one to call tomorrow that I wouldn't mind making the drive up to (I was busy with anniversary relaxing yesterday and too busy with work today).  If they'll rent for a week for not too much, I'll make the drive.  Otherwise I'm just going to do some rigging with flood lights, etc...
  • I would send you mine, but I need it Smile
