What baby stuff do I need to wash now?

38 weeks

The hospital bag is in the car. I'm mostly working at home now. I could prepare.

I don't want to wash too many clothes, etc. because I have no idea what size he'll be. We have a lot of swaddle/sleep sacks and receiving blankets from the registry, but again, no clue what size/how many we'll need.

Any advice? This appears to be the extent of my nesting.

Re: What baby stuff do I need to wash now?

  • Having no real idea where to start, I just washed all blankets, bibs, sleep sacks and all clothes up to 3 months. My guy was 9lbs 7oz and still needed newborn stuff because he was sort of "in between". So I have all my 3-6 sizes and higher in drawers/closets waiting for him to get big enough.
  • I was in major nesting mode and I washed everything.  There were a few things never worn so I guess it wasn't a perfect plan but I didn't want to worry about having enough clean stuff once he was here.  I washed clothes, blankets, towels, and sheets but I did not wash the covers to the swing, vibrating chair or car seat.

  • Ditto Jess. I also had a big baby - 9# 3 oz and she was in NB clothing. I washed all NB and 0-3, all blankets, towels, bibs, hats and wash cloths.

Don't forget the boppy cover and changing pad cover.

    And um, 38 weeks! Wow!

  • I washed everything just so it was done. Among other things, I was afraid I would have an unplanned csection and then getting to and from the laundry area via two flights of stairs would be near impossible and just one more thing I was asking DH to handle while I was temporarily out of commission. I assumed Id pass on the few newborn items I had to friends if baby was too big for them at birth, so washing them was okay.  Luckily, she was in newborn sizes for most of her first month so I got to use pretty much all the clothes I had.

  • Not much more to add. I washed all onesies/side snap tees, sleepers, sleep saks, PJs, and outfits I loved plus diaper cloths, blankets, towels, washcloths, sheets, changing table cover, multi purpose pads, socks, bibs, um..., etc. in the NB and 0-3 sizes.

Everything else I kept tags on to and exchanged as needed.

And I never "nested" and people tell me I'm a good mom, so no worries there.

    GL!!

  • Don't forget to wash your stuff - your want your maternity leave wardrobe ready to wear.

  • I didn't have to worry about Sam because she had all Charlie's hand me downs (so no worry about returning).  But she was a big baby - 9lbs 7oz and never touched NB stuff and was only in 0-3 for maybe a month

I never got that nesting instinct with either.  Pretty sure I washed everything with Charlie and that was stupid because he also never fit in NB and was always an overachiever in terms of size

Holy crap, I cannot believe you are 38 weeks!  How are you feeling?

Maternity leave wardbrobe? I hope this refers to the sweats and yoga pants I will be living in until May.

Eagles, I guess I feel ok? Harder to walk, easier to breathe.

Have a billion people told you "OMG YOU DROPPED!"?  Usually when it's easier to breathe that is why.  But people would say it just to say it, even if, in fact, the baby clearly had not dropped

I actually first thought of Flo Rida's "Low" but yours is just as good.
