About three months ago, I went to my OBGYN complaining about sharp pains over where my left ovary is. I was mid-cycle at the time, and I was given a sonogram but everything showed up fine. Completely normal. I don't have a history of any ovarian cycsts so they didn't even ask me about that. Two days later, I was rushed to the ER by my mother because I couldn't take the pain. I thought for sure surgery would be in store for me based on the pain I was in. I left the ER with pain medicine and advice to use hot compress and lay around. After about 5 days, the pain subsided and my life went back to normal.
Two nights ago, I went to bed with a dull pain and thought "oh gosh don't do this to me a gain" Yesterday morning, I woke up in pain but could deal with it. Last night was another story. I was crying like a child because of the pain. There was nothing I could do based on what the Doctors told me last time. I went to bed with pain meds, woke up this morning with excruciating pain. Out of this world sharp/stabbing pain below my belly button to the left..general area of the left ovary. Sure, my pain pills subside the pain, but when that's over with, the pain takes over and it hurts to even breathe.
My symptoms are EXTREMELY sharp stabbing pain more paiful when I move or stand up straight. It tends to go mild when I slouch standing or sitting. This is my only symptom. I do not have a fever, chills, naseua or vomiting.
Can someone PLEASE help me and possibly give me advice/ or even your personal experiences with this issue?
Re: Someone plz help..I'm in so much pain
As the pp pointed out, it could be pain from ovulation. If you are not mid-cycle right now, something else is afoot.
For your own peace of mind, please get a second opinion from another gyn. Get a third if you still are not sure; it would not hurt.
Have your doc, as the pp said, rule out fibroids, cysts or endometriosis.
I don't know if it is possible if you are pregnant -- I was thinking possible ectopic pregnancy, too, if you are.
Wishing you the best. Let us know what happens.
Something else that didn't cross my mind. Good post.
For pain managment you might consider acupuncture. A guy I know sees an acupuncturist for another non pain related problem and he positively swears by the benefits of acupuncture. He hasn't had a flare up with his issue in years.
Thanks, and ditto on getting a second opinion!
I would definitely do everything you can to figure out why you're in pain. I have a friend who has had chronic pain for 2 1/2 years and just figured out what was wrong about 6 months ago.
It also really pisses me off that there are so many problems that women have with their reproductive organs and no one does research on them. Like, oh, you have horrible pains during ovulation, guess you're SOL! Ugh. *steps off soapbox*
Big newsflash... INDEED.
What are they teaching these docs in medical school???
When you have pain, it is for a reason. It's not just there for sh!ts and giggles and to be ignored.
Keep getting opinions until you find a doc who is WILLING to investigate the cause of the pain. GL.
What else you can do:
Get a notebook and keep a daily pain journal.
Write down when you've had pain, where it's located and on a scale of 1 to 10, how the pain rates, etc.
More questions: is there blood in your urine, are you having difficulty voiding, have you had issues with stool or bowel movements, etc.
Not to be an alarmist, but endometriosis can cause problems with voiding and bowel movements.
And sometimes there are no bowel issues at all --- I recently had a mass removed; turns out it was an endometrioma and it was also attached to my bowel. I had no bowel/GI symptoms or issues at all.
The only way they found out it was endo was when I had an exploratory lap to remove the mass.
Wishing you luck. Find a doc that LISTENS and gets down to the bottom of your pain issue.
I don't usually post on this board, but wanted to pipe in my two cents, too. I had similar pain to what you're describing ... sharp pain when it happened, but it didn't happen all the time. It was in the area of one of my ovaries, and I could even feel the ovary through my abdomen sometimes. They could never find anything. At one point they sent me for an u/s of the ovary, which came back normal, but it also showed a diverticulm (little bulgy pocket in my intestine). Mystery solved! What I was feeling as my ovary was in fact an ovary-sized little pocket o' poop.
True story.
Seriously, though, I hope you find the source of the pain, and a treatment, soon. Keep making noise. Eventually someone will hear. Good luck!
