Yet another applique question re:different thread colors

I've done 1 applique so far but I was wondering when it does the first stitch that is the outline and then the tack down stitch, why are they different colored thread from what the satin stitch is?  Does that make sense?

I actually did mine the same colors but was wondering if there was a purpose to it.

Re: Yet another applique question re:different thread colors

  • They have to be programmed with different colors otherwise the machine will go straight into the satin stitch.  I'm the type that likes to skip some stitches (a quilt I did was all appliqued and it would do an outline to show where to put the material, then to tack it down, then the satin stitch, I normally skipped the outline because I knew where it was going anyway.  Make sense?  The person/company digitizing it doesn't actually want you to switch thread colors, it's just for the machine's programming.
  • Ok, that makes sense!  I was seriously trying to figure out why in the world I needed to have 14 thread colors for something that had 3, lol!
