Hey girls.
So you probably remember my trouble when I got the pertussis vaccine and had to wait four weeks to start TTC. Do they tell males to wait a certain amount of time? Coud it effect sperm? I can't find anything on the internet. DH has not yet gotten the vaccine and we are TTC. I don't want to have to wait another four weeks. His brother and SIL are due in December and are insisting anyone around the baby gets the vaccine. DH wanted to get it last week and I told him no b.c. I don't want to wait anymore time. Maybe I should tell him to wait until closer to December, but he is insisting on getting it all of the sudden. Does anyone know? I am going to tell DH if they say we have to wait to not get it. We won't see the baby till Christmas time anyway.
Re: Pertussis vaccine for DH question
I agree with Melissa- since I got pregnant I have learned not to depend too much on internet! Good Luck on TTC
My guess is that it would be totally fine if he got the Tdap right now. The big issue with you getting it so early is that 1. you build up your immunity to it so you don't get it & pass it along to the baby either pre or post delivery and 2. that you aren't actively trying to build up your immunity when you are in your first trimester.
Don't know why the above is bolded & I can't make it normal- weird
From the CDC. Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap)
* Situations with increased risk for pertussis: Healthcare providers can choose to administer Tdap instead of Td to protect against pertussis in pregnant adolescents for routine or "catch-up" vaccination because the incidence of pertussis is high among adolescents, in pregnant healthcare personnel and child care providers to prevent transmission to infants younger than 12 months of age and to other vulnerable persons, and in pregnant women employed in an institution or living in a community with increased pertussis activity. 11

I really doubt that it will affect DH's sperm, I think it's more of a concern because the baby is 100% dependent on the mother for nutrition/growth, etc. and the 1st trimester is so critical to development.
But I would definitely contact your Dr. because there is probably tons of info online and who knows what's true and what's not.
