Update on feeding the kiddo.

So she magically started taking formula a little over a week ago.

I defrosted and sent in my last 2 bags of milk to daycare - and it was def bittersweet. At one point I had well over 300 oz in the freezer and it slowly dwindled away.

I thought I might pump for a little while longer and send in one bottle a day of bm but I really am just mentally done pumping. I had only been pumping once a day for a little while now so when I came to work on Monday I just didn't pump.

We're still nursing in the morning and at night. I'm hoping to squeeze in twice in the am and twice before bed but the past 2 days she's only done one evening feeding.

The funny thing is I'm still lugging my pump with me every day, just not using it. Not sure why I'm clinging to it.

  • Yay for Baby L.  I'm so glad she is doing so well.

I didn't breastfeed past a month for a combination of reasons - mainly never producing enough milk, despite feeding and pumping.  I am so impressed and just want to give you major props for pumping for this long.

I totally understand  your carrying the pump around.  Last night I packed away all of Claire's bottles, and it was so sad for me.  That time was our bonding time.  Now that she is off the bottle she doesn't even want to cuddle at bedtime anymore.  She wants her story and then to go into her crib for night night.   I am so proud of her but I miss our cuddling so much.  I know for me it's just amazing how quickly she grows and sometimes I want to hold onto my little baby for just a little longer.

  • Good for you!

Pumping at work for me was PURE torture. I had no where or time to do it (yes I know what the law says) and our school building was NOT air conditioned and my classroom was on the 2nd floor and in the sun until about 2........ so when I did pump at lunch my room was usually about 92*...

I'm glad you are able to still nurse am/pm.  Did you end up changing formulas until she took one, or did you just persist until she took the same one?

I got samples of Enfamil and then Similac RTF. I tried both and she hated them.  The one day at dc, they attempted to give her 2 oz of the enfamil and she sucked it right down. After that she started taking both kinds. She switched just fine between the two and now we're just using the Enfamil since we ran out of the SImilac.

  • isnt it crazy how strong the mental aspect of it is???  it really is amazing when you think about it.  congrats on making it as long as you did!  :)

i stopped cold turkey at 8 months due to meds.  she transitioned fine but it took me a long time to accept that she was weaned.  hang in there

Yeah, I'm hoping she won't be ready to wean b/c I'm not ready to wean 100% yet.

  • Good job powering through! Pumping is a serious mental, emotional, and physical commitment and I completely sympathize with you just being done with it.  I still miss nursing and its been about a year since dd self-weaned, but Im trying to embrace my smaller boobs and her growing independence and remind myself to cherish that time a little more if we end up having another baby down the road...so, enjoy your nursing time while it lasts!

  • So glad to hear she is taking the formula!  Major props to you, because I cannot imagine pumping at work, that is serious commitment

  • Nice work on all counts!
  • Thanks girls! I'm pretty proud I've made it this far both pumping and nursing! I know I'm going to miss the cuddle time when we wean...
