Portrait Studios

I have become such a scatterbrained slacker these last 3 weeks.  I forgot to plan newborn portraits/birth announcements.  I'm interested in ordering from someplace like tiny prints, but could use advice on how to get the images.  My sister and I tried to DIY and it was a massive fail.

 We want to stay local (we're in Goshen) so we were thinking of Sears or JC Penny in the Galleria.  DH found a pro photographer out of Florida, NY but her fee is a little higher than we were looking for and the negatives each have to be purchased separately.  In your opinion would you splurge on the pro or just use the local studio? Does anyone have experience with either studio?  Would you recommend going with a pro (she will travel to our home, which is a big plus)?  I know some of you ladies do this professionally, and would love to support your business, but the only one that comes to mind is in Westchester and I am not functional enough to travel that far. Anyone more local?

Thanks!

Re: Portrait Studios

  • We did pro for Jacks and JCP for Charlotte but the announcement pics were done by my sister and I. I love JCP. I have a coupons for free siting with the photog who did JennyNel's pictures. If you will use it it's yours, she knows more about him. I just got the hookup from my mom. Let me know.

  • Thanks, Navy!  I'd love to take you up on the offer, but honestly can't see myself travelling to the other side of the river (the adjustment has been very hard for me.  I don't know how people do this!) I'd hate to waste your coupon, but I looooove Jennynel's pics of A.

    I can't find the prices on line for the negative rights at JCPenny- any ballpark idea of the price point for the CD?

  • The told me 150 but there is a coupon floating around for 25$ they told me to just mention it and they would give me deal. We have Xmas photos with them in Nov and just getting CD. I like them bc if you join their club it's 2 years and thy are all saved so if you do milestones, etc with them you can make collages from past pictures. Picture people doesn't save them you have to buy CD to save them.

    Butting in- You sound exactly like me the first time around...and the 2nd ...and the 3rd.   Before I had kids I never imagined all the things that were a million times harder to do (like leaving the house to take pics) once they are born.  Just wanted to give you some reassurance that it DOES get better.  {{Hugs}}

    Awwe, thanks hun.  If you did want to use Dan he will come to you to do the session.  He doesn't only do in-studio sessions.  I'm not sure what the rules of the coupon are, but you could give him a call & see.  Otherwise give JCP a shot.  The sitting fee is dirt cheap so if the pictures don't come out good it's not like you wated a lot of money on the session trying.
