How is everyone's week going/weekend plans?

Today is my last day of work, so it is my Friday Party!!!!  I have a second interview with a presentation for a job I really want right in Worcester tomorrow and have been prepping for it for a week.  I feel like I am in Chorus Line with Oh God I need this job, I really want this job, I've got to get this job.

Anywho, my week has been good.  Work today, then some quick cleaning in case there are any showings this weekend.  I am packing up the dog and heading up to Mass tonight at 6:30.  This will be our first ride up in the Mini in his car harness, so wish me luck.  He is a total PITA and can unbuckle himself.  Doug has to be harnessed in or else he tries to sit on my lap.  Normally we take the Altima with him in the crate, but DH has that car now that the weather is not convertible friendly.

No real weekend plans.  We are broke with all of the expenses right now, so we are trying to not spend money.  DH tossed out the idea of going hiking on Wachusett Mountain and maybe going into RI since I have never been.

How are all of your weeks going?  Any fun plans for this weekend?

I am bummed to be missing an Octoberfest party tomorrow night and a Halloween party Saturday night here in PA.  But getting a job is way more important.

Re: How is everyone's week going/weekend plans?

  • Hi there!

Getting tired of the rain. I'm missing the Cake Wrecks book tour in Brookline because 1) we have too much to do in this house and 2) I'm not dealing with the crazy drivers + a coating of snow.

We're looking forward to the weekend. Some old friends from England are coming to visit Saturday (I've never even met their kids and they've never met DH), and we're taking DD to a Halloween (actually a Samhain) party on Sunday. Please let her decide to like her costume by then...

  • Did you finish Mara Dyer last night?! I read it last weekend!

Umm. This week sucks. But it's almost the weekend. We have a busy weekend, we have a halloween parade to go to Saturday and Sunday we have beach pix before sunset, then a halloween party that night. I am not sure if we are going because I have to travel up there for work bright and early Monday.

I'm also lining up pre-school tours and am LOL at the intake forms that ask what my child's interests are. I'm like, "Um. reading, painting, music, and swimming!" LOL He's 1!

  • Finished it last night finally.  Tore through the book in 2 days, but took forever to finally sit down and read it.  It was really good and I can't wait for the next one to come out.  I am going to do a re-read at some point.

  • Good luck with the interview, Pup!

Dr. L, what's the costume she hates?

This week is draaaaaaaaging. Also, I keep thinking it's a day later than it actually is.  Yesterday, I woke up and thought it was Thursday, which was really upsetting.  But today, I woke up and thought it was Friday.  Which was much, much worse.

But I have a haircut tonight, and drinks after work tomorrow with some colleagues. Oh, and my brother called me last night to tell me that he's going to look at a setting for an engagement ring for his girlfriend, so I am kind of busting at the seams for him. It's been a long time coming (they've been together 10 years as of next month, but 4 of those years were during college), so I'm thrilled for them. He swore me to secrecy, so I can only tell people who don't know him, heh.

  • We're carving pumpkins with the ILs on Sunday. That's it for my big plans.

  • We are considering going to a Halloween party on Saturday, but I'm undecided.

This week is going by so quickly. DH is away until tomorrow night, but MIL is babysitting this afternoon so I'm going out shopping and to lunch with a friend. Woohoo!

Yep, next September will be here before we know it!

We have it narrowed down to 3 to tour.

And he does like those 4 things! LOL. But what one year old doesn't? Do you think there are over-acheiving parents who put down "the symphony" and "golfing" as the interests for their child to be admitted into the 2 year old classroom?

    Dr.L, what's Samhain?

Punky, wow, preschool starts at 2 years old?  And sorry you're having a bad week.  What's going on?

Friday night I'm hoping we'll just chill.  I'm exhausted this week and still doing the post-vacation catch up dance.  Turned down a dinner invitation for that night so I can sit at home and take care of random crap (but really we'll probably end up vegging on the couch with a movie or something).

Saturday I have to go pick up that prize I won from the Yarn Crawl.  My family is coming over in the afternoon to carve pumpkins and have a multi-belated-birthday celebration for several of us.  We're just going to order food in and keep it casual.

    No plans on Sunday, hallelujah!

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

    They do here, I guess!

    They start at 2 y/o or 3 y/o.

I guess you could wait until they are 4 if you wanted to! I guess if it was between a more academic setting or daycare, I'd choose the school.

I have not decided if we are starting him next fall or waiting another year.

    My child will not sleep.

And he says "daddy" but nothing close to "mama" yet. Which is sweet, but secretly annoys me immensely because it is me who is home with him, me who feeds him, cooks his meals, and stays up all night with him.

But he sees DH and goes, "daddy!"

I say, "Say Mama, mama, ma-ma" and he laughs like, "that is the silliest thing I have ever heard."

I am now researching and it looks like most schools I see around here are 2.9 years, so he can't start until the following fall. I'm glad. I think he'll never be old enough to go to school haha
  • LadyE, good!
The montessori school doesn't take them until they can walk, carry a tray, and only need 1 nap a day.

I do like that most of the 2 y/o class rooms are only 2-3 days a week morning sessions.

  • Punky, I hear ya. I'm already thinking of touring Montessori schools, and maybe considering some sort of preschool early next year.

Rock, I knitted DD a lamb costume. She'll put up with the vest part, but hates the hat with a flaming passion. apparently this is common for this age *sigh* Of course this is the year I make her something...

Samhain is the Celtic version of Halloween. The Irish Cultural Center in Canton is holding a GTG Sunday afternoon with kid stuff, etc. We thought it would be fun to check out.

Haha, I'm sorry, but that's kinda funny!  One of these days he's going to bust out with "mama!" and just melt your heart.  Not sleeping sounds craptastic though.

I saw your post on Crafts about the costume.  It was 5000C who asked what you made.  She looks cute in the vest.  Does she normally hate wearing hats?

Damn, I knew I'd get someone mixed up ;)

She has a love/hate with hats. Sometimes she'll wear one all day (I made her another sheep one and she wore it for 2 days straight) and other times she'll tear it off. It might be a sizing issue, or a toddler issue. Not sure yet...

  • I worked at a Montessori school when I was in college and loved the program.  If/when we ever have kids, that is where I want to send them.

Dr.L that costume sounds adorable.  I hope the kid will be cooperative.

  • Pup, Good luck on the interview! It sounds very promising!

I feel like this week has flown by and I haven't gotten anything done.  I did finally go shopping at the new Wegman's in Northborough.  It was too busy, and the place is huge!  Plus they have their own liquor store/section that has everything (good prices too!).

We are going to Patriot Place tonight with some friends to see Gloriana (country music)....should be a good time.  Supposed to go to a Corn Maze on Saturday, but I don't know with all of this rain.  I want to do something on Saturday night, but i don't know what......and we definately don't have any costumes ideas.

Nothing else planned as of yet.  DH needs to find himself a vehicle, because riding his bicycle 12 miles to work won't be possible pretty soon.  He's only had 5 months to find oneHuh?

LOL! Prepare for a long wait. DD just figured out Mommy 2 weeks ago. 2 weeks. Yet she can say "Daddy!" with perfect pronunciation, and has for a while. He walks in the door and it's like Christmas. I walk in and she's like, "hey".

  • Punky- if it makes you feel any better my friend's kid says "daddy," "doggie," "baabaa(bottle)," a few other things like that, and "Linda."  She refuses to call her mommy, just Linda.  It is hilarious to see this tiny little baby crawling around screaming "Linda.....Linda."

Or the kid could be saying curse words.

I can't believe that you're filling out forms for preschool yet.  I have to admit that I'm thinking of signing DD up for something preschoolish next year and she'd be 2 then.  She stays with her grandparents while DH and I are at work and I really want her to have a chance to socialize so when I think about it I guess it makes sense.  I haven't even come close to thinking about WHERE to send her, just that I'd like her to get out 2 or 3 times a week (starting to notice that she's a bit shy with kids her own age).

I can sympathize with the dada, mama thing.  DD's first word was the dog's name and her 2nd word was dada.  I think it took another month or 2 until she finally figured out how to say mama.  It got really frustrating because I was spending SO much more time with her and she just laughed whenever I said mama.

  • It's been a long week here.  I am very much looking forward to the weekend.  I really need a chance to regroup and start fresh next week.

We don't have a ton of plans for the weekend.  I'm planning on taking Lil to a hockey game tomorrow.  Then this weekend we'll just play at home

Mara Dyer... Hey my sister's pug, Ruby, is in that book. : ) My sister was very excited about that book. I still have not read it, (Don't tell my sister... note to self... go to B&N and get Mara Dyer this weekend...)

This weekend is pretty low key. I had to write the program notes for my handbell ensemble's holiday concerts today, plus I made Barbara Lynch's Short Ribs today (the house smells amazing!) for a dinner party I'm having tomorrow night. Last night Brix had a Champagne tasting and tonight they are having a Port tasting, SO loves Port so we are really looking forward to that. I was going to roast a chicken tonight, but I forgot I have the ribs in the oven so we are running down to Coppa for a pizza. (Although we might try to run over to the Franklin if they are not to busy...)

I'm just happy to be home and not have any real plans for the weekend.

BTW... if anyone is interested in hearing a handbell ensemble this holiday season, check out our website: http://www.backbayringers.org/ I direct the Back Bay Ringers, not the Carillon.

    Hope everyone enjoys the weekend!
