My mom wants a new sewing machine. Her current one is probably as old as I am. BUT she really wants a super fancy one. You know, that could do monograming type stuff.
What would you suggest?
Re: Sewing ladies...
I bought this exact machine a few months ago... I recommend it but the hoop size is extremely limited. It's ok for a beginner machine but if you get into embroidery you will soon want to upgrade to a bigger hoop size.
You also have to consider all the extra accessories you will need on top of buying the machine. If you plan to add names to designs you find online or buy then you will need an embroidery software for you computer and they can run from about $200 to a couple thousand. I bought PE Design Lite and it ran me about $250 and it's doesn't have all the features. Another accessory you will need is embroidery thread and that is also expensive. I think it runs at least $5 a spool or you can buy a multi color set. I bought a 50 color set and it ran me about $350.
I went to a shop here in the Heights about a year ago and left crying big fat alligator tears when I realized how much it would cost me to get the machine I wanted.
That being said, you cannot go wrong with any of the Bernina machines
