I have never heard of such a name ... how is it on so many of your 'D' lists?

It's an Irish name that, like Aidan, has become more and more popular.
I have a cousin named Declan and he lives in SC and no one has any clue what it is and how to say it. His middle name is Robert. Once at the Doctor's office they called out for a "De Clan Bob". Uh, yea.
It's pronounced Deck-lan.
ETA: It was one of my fave names in College when it was kind of an obscure Gaelic name. I still like it but won't use it b/c of it's popularity. Kind of like Maeve. I obsessively love Maeve and I know 2 babies that were just born and named Maeve.
I thought her son's name is Deacon, not Declan?
That helps, I was saying "Dee-Clan" and thinking, "wow, they all really like that?"
Haha, maybe you're right about Reese.
I always said Dee-clan too.

You're right, it's Deacon. I googled
I just recently heard Declan for the first time. DH suggested it as a name and I like it, especially since we both have some irish in us. It doesn't flow well with our last name though, so we probably won't use it.

That's what I thought too. I kept reading it the first time as Declaw.
Where in SC is he?? I can totally imagine the people down here have difficulty with his name. My MIL told her friends that my name was pronounced differently since most Laura's are lauwrah's - seriously, I had never ever thought of my spelling as being pronounced differently - but she did save me from a bunch of southern drawl!
It's actually my cousin's kid. They are in Columbia - just had to look up on FB, lol.
I really like the name Declan (definitely pronounced Deck-lan) but I tend to like Gaelic names.
