how many cupcakes for dessert table?
I'm helping plan the dessert table for a party. About 60 people(20 kids under age 13 and about 40 adults) Besides cupcakes, there will be cookies, fruit salad and cake pops. I'm thinking 1 cupcake per person plus a dozen extra. Sound about right?

With other desserts around, that's probably too many*. 40 (or 3 dozen) regular cupcakes would probably suffice. At the very most, 4 dozen.
On a related note, aren't they nearly the same thing as cake pops? So your plan would have 72 cupcakes plus X cake pops to cover that, um, food group. That's excessive. Can you sub brownies in for the cupcakes or cake pops?
*Speaking as someone just involved with a wedding that used a similar formula and had dozens leftover.

I agree with tar, but I also know I'd end up doing one cupcake per person because I'd rather have leftovers. This is one of the reasons I don't like cupcakes. I can cut cake to more pieces.
Can you do mini cupcakes? Then again those would be even more like cake pops. Frankly, I'd do either or instead of both. I don't think you even need to replace with brownies.
What if we were to do oreo pops instead of cake pops? We wanted something on a stick. Or maybe pretzel rods with one end dipped in chocolate?

I did both pretzel rods and mini cupcakes for my 4th of July party and all but 2 pretzel sticks were gone and I had a TON of cupcakes leftover. I had 36 cupcakes made and had about 50 people.
So if I were you, I would do the pretzel rods and half the number of cupcakes as you have people. I personally would rather run out and have less to clean up/ pack up/ save.
