I've mentioned before that Will is a really fantastic sleeper, and as his grateful parents we adore that he sleeps for 8-9 hour stretches through the night. I was talking to a friend a while back that has a son about 8 months older than Will, and she mentioned that she puts him down around 7pm for the night. So I'm wondering at what point did you start putting your babe down earlier for the night? Did putting your child down earlier result in an earlier wake up? I'm not looking to really change anything right now, just more curious than anything. Kyle would love to start putting him down around 930 or so instead of 1030 (he gets up around 6am to head to work), but I'm concerned that he'll wake up an hour earlier in the morning, and for the time being I'm much happier with our usual 7am wake-up time. It would be nice to have a little more time in the evening for just the two of us to relax together, but I'm not sure that it's worth sacrificing the groove that we're in now. Thoughts???

Re: Bedtime for Babes
Carollne kind of adjusted herself and has been on the same schedule, 7pm give or take to 7am, since she was 5 months? She was really sleeping through the night at 3 months, I'd say 9-6am. The more she was finally up and moving the more she tired herself out. She was also older so she didn't need to be woken to eat. I think we may have been quick to put her to bed when she showed signs of wanting to go to bed around 7, but we really didn't do anything like slowly adjusting down from the 9-10pm bedtimes. I know some people say slowly adjust by 15 minutes every night. She was always just so easy with it and she made her own schedule. Now, she's even been sleeping in till 7:45 in the mornings, which kills me b/c if I were fine she wouldn't give me that time haha, guess she knows Daddy needs extra help while he's home taking care of Momma!
I think Will will probably adjust like Caroline did. It seemed like it kind of happened over night, where we had more "us" time in the evenings and then we looked around and didn't know what to do with ourselves
I'm just sad that I can't remember when Nolan started to make the switch or how! I remember doing his final bedtime nursing at 9:00 during the time of my shows (like Grey's) and he'd take about 45 minutes to eat. (sloooow eater!) Which left me always DVR'ing the last 15 minutes or so to get him ready. I'd be in rocking him around 10. He was always such a night owl and still goes to bed about 8-8:30 but often sleeps until 8:30-9 on weekends (sometimes 10!!!!) Like PP have said, he just came to it on his own and we went with it. Definitely paying attention to "the signs" helped. It took a while. I was home with him for 4 months and then had to go back to school. For a long time his bedtime was 9, even during our work week. It wasn't until this summer (DH and I are both teachers) that we worked on cutting that back a little. We also struggle with trying to get in enough time with him after we get home from work which is about 4:30-5 so we allow a little extra time. He seems to do fine with his schedule. If he were fussy, whiny, bad mood, run-down, sick all the time, etc. we'd push for an earlier time, but he seems to get enough sleep overnight and then packs in a decent nap at daycare. All kids are different!!! (I'm a kindergarten teacher; it's so true!)
On the time with hubby end, just moving Nolan from bassinette to crib at 5 weeks helped us with our time together. We're used to hanging out in our room, watching TV, chatting, reading, etc. When N was in our room, I refused to even breathe in there for fear of waking him. Once we moved him, our time together really opened up. Even after 10. Even if it was just for 15 minutes of chat time. Joe was still getting up to go to work, but catching up with me was still a priority.
It will all come together at some point! Hang in there!
We've always put Felix down between 7 and 7:30. When he was one month to about 3 months, we'd wake him at 11 to feed him, then he'd wake again usually around 4 to feed again and sleep till about 6 or 7. At 3 months, we began putting him down at 7 and he dropped the 4am feeding. Around 6 months he began sleeping 7-6am and now he does 7-7ish.
All kids are definitely different! Felix works really well with routine, but the downfall to that is that if it gets to be much after 7 he is a total crank! He'll help you find a plan that works for you guys.
