S/O used clothing/ hand me downs
The post below got me thinking of the hand me down clothing I received as a kid. I always received my older cousins clothing. They were 10 years older than me and by the time I received the clothing it was out of style. Im talking about the 80s vs the 90s, so you know there were major differences in clothing styles at that point. I always felt bad about it too, because they were being nice. Some of the clothing could work and other times it was clearly a no go situation.
Did you ever receive hand me downs? Whose clothes were they previously? What was the age difference?

My Blog
I had an older sister but she was very small and I was very tall so none of her stuff really fit me. My friends and I traded clothes a ton.
In kind of a related way I am currently OBSESSED with Craig's List. When we moved home, we had to furnish an entire house so pretty much everything is coming from Craig's List or friends are giving us stuff. I've found the hunt for the right piece we're looking for in the right price range to be thrilling. I haven't spent more than $500 and furnished almost our entire house.
I never had hand me downs, I have an older brother and no other close female family members, but I have handed down my baby clothes to dd, and she has several of my baby outfits and wears them. I like to refer to them as vintage instead of hand me downs
I totally see the appeal of consignment shopping, I am personally not a big fan because I hate rummaging through stuff (I don't even like stores like TJ Maxx for this reason) and we have received so many new outfits as gifts for her that she won't need clothes til she is like 10.
I didn't get hand me downs. I'm the only child. I would sometimes trade clothes with my cousins, though.
I agree with fricb, I hate rummaging through stuff. I'm not much of a shopper or bargain-finder, I just want to get in and out of stores.
I got hand me downs from the daughter of my Mom's friend. She was a few years older than me and so cool. I loved when I would get that bag of clothes, I still remember an off the shoulder pink top that I got from her.
Like frlcb, I also hate rummaging through racks of clothes. I can't even stand to be in a store that is disorganized and usually have to leave within minutes.
I was in hand me downs whenever possible. But I was in quite a bit of new stuff, too. I think it mattered less when younger as the clothes were just going to get dirty anyways.
I still wear hand me downs. Clothing trades, discards from friends, or even borrowing. Have a bunch of maternity shirts from friend that I need to return since they no longer fit the bust. And there's always room for a good deal from a consignment store.
Hand me down maternity clothing is the best!! My sister and I have a ton of stuff that we both bought and a friend gave her that we just share between each other. I've only used it once, but my sister is on kid # 3.
