Baby Names: What does your kids name mean?
And did that have anything to do with your picking it?

Re: Baby Names: What does your kids name mean?
I honestly am not sure I even really understand what that means, so obviously that didn't have any say in the matter.
Kayleigh is Gaelic and means Descendant of Caollaidhe. I have no idea what means.
She got her name from my mom and sister's middle names.
Ugh. Molly is too cute (your D and the name overall) to mean such an ugly thing.
Per the Great Wizard of Goog "The given name Caollaidhe derives from the Gaelic word caol meaning "slender""
Molly means star of the sea. Estelle means star. She's a superstar. Molly has a few meanings, the other common one is bitter. I like the star one more.
We just liked Molly, but Estelle is a combination of family names from my side (Esther/Stella/Rosella/Esta). I love that she is honoring my maternal grandmother and great grandmothers.

Neena is a Hindi name and it means "beautiful eyes"
Apparently, it's also a Native American name that means "strong"
We didn't pick her name because of the meaning, although I think it fits her well. :-)
Neena Mae. 1/7/10

Meaning depends on where I look...
English - Beautiful Bird
Hebrew - Life
German - Uncertain, possibly desired
Her middle name is the same middle name as me, my mom, my mom's mom. It is the first name of my great grandmother.

I've never seen that meaning before. I just looked up Ryan (we share a middle name) and it mean young royalty. So she's either a bitter young royal or a mermaid princess I guess.
Mermaid princess!!
From what I can tell, the Hebrew meaning is bitter, while the Irish meaning is star of the sea. It makes me think of tuna a little, but it's better than bitter.

Natalie means "born on Christmas" or "the joy of Christ's birth" depending on the source.
Sophia means "wisdom."
We didn't pick her name because of the meaning, but it was one of the reasons we liked the names so much, since they fit what we remembered about the pregnancy (awaiting her at Christmas, and always wanting her to know the joy of Christmas and it's meaning, plus of course we want her to be wise one day.)
Alexandra - Defender of men
I didn't think about the meaning of a name when choosing it.

16 read! my read shelf:
Nora means "honor," or "light."
I love the meaning of her name, but didn't pick it because of that.

Kodiak means island. We chose the name after the brown bears that are found exclusively on Kodiak Island in Alaska.
I recently found out an ex-bf lives in Kodiak, Alaska. Funny coicidence, I guess. At least we're still friends so it doesn't ruin the name for me.
I wanted to name this baby girl Isla so both kids' names would mean island but DH doesn't like the name.

Abigail - Hebrew.. Joy of the Father.... I loved the name and it's very fitting that it means joy of the father because she is the apple of his eye and is such a daddy's girl!
Lily - English - flower ... we picked Lily because we wanted an L name to honor my grandfather Lionel and it was the only name we both really liked.
Hannah - Hebrew - Grace.... so poor Hannah was the last name we finally agreed on. We had heard the name and then just both kinda liked it. Then DH realized it was a palindrome and he was stoked (what a nerd, right?). But the interesting thing was once I found out what the name meant I decided that Baby B was going to be Hannah because she moved around a lot and her movements were always slow and "graceful", while Baby A was jabbing me here and there. So I guess I did take into account what her name meant when deciding which twin was named what.

The name Nolan is of Irish origin and the meaning of Nolan is "famous". It is also of English origin, where it means "little champion, chariot-fighter".
The name Delaney is of Irish origin and the meaning of Delaney is "challenger". It is also of English origin, where it means "dark challenger".
The name Adelyn is of English origin and the meaning of Adelyn is "noble, serene".
Meanings don't have anything to do with my choices, however I do look them up. If it was something awful, I wouldn't use it.
Our crazy, wonderful life
Liam is an Irish name, and the meaning is "strong-willed warrior."
Joseph is Hebrew and means "God will increase."
We didn't choose Liam's name for either of the meanings. We liked the name Liam and it also short for William, which is my FIL and my grandpa's name. Joseph is DH's middle name and was my brother's name.
However, Liam totally fits the meaning of his name. This kid is crazy strong, stubborn, opinionated and passionate!
