Product recs?

I picked up Dove's Damage Therapy Intensive Conditioner (http://www.dove.us/Products/Hair/Conditioners/Intensive-Repair-Conditioner.aspx) about a week ago, and I LOVE it! I have super dry/damaged/color treated hair and it's made it so soft and much healthier-looking.

I also have been LOVING Organix Moroccan Argan Oil Renewing Treatment (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?rls=com.microsoft:*:IE-SearchBox&oe=UTF-8&rlz=1I7DKUS&hl=en&q=organix+moroccan&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=9474075998733201851#) - although I haven't used it with the Dove conditioner yet because I ran out.

Any good products you've tried lately? Especially cheap-o drug store ones like mine? :p

Re: Product recs?

  • I'm adding another two, since I do more than condition my hair in my spare time: Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanser (http://www.aveeno.com/facialcare/ultra-calming-foaming-cleanser) - also a new purchase of mine. So far I really like it! I was using Boscia Purifying Cleansing Gel which I LOVED (http://www.bosciaskincare.com/newsite/product_detail.php?cPath=0&products_id=104&category=&dept_id=41) but I couldn't justify the $25 price tag right now.

My go-to moisturizer for like a bajillion years is/has been Olay Complete Moisturizer for Combination/Oily skin (http://www.olay.com/skin-care-products/complete/face-moisturizer?pid=075609000942). It's been good to me for almost 10 years.

  • I've been using Covergirl's Tinted moisturizer for years now. I love it because it's like a regular moisturizer, but it also has spf 15 and it acts as a light foundation. I never feel like i'm putting too much on my face, and it dries quickly so I can put my mineral powder/bronzer on. http://www.covergirl.com/smoothers-spf15tintedmoisture

....I also really love CG's mineral powder and mineral bronzer. Again, it's light, and I never feel like I'm putting too much on, but I can definitely tell the difference between no make up and make up..in a good way.

Oooo, thanks for this! Do you ever use moisturizer with it, or does it work fine as both? I have some flaky patches in the winter that I need to make sure are super-moisturized.

I just remembered another one I swear by! Covergirl Outlast Lip Color (specifically in Ever Red-dy 507 - http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=covergirl+507&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=15594478634134086248&sa=X&ei=zPOpTsvzLqSBsgLKoYWBDw&ved=0CEcQ8wIwAg). It last through eating, drinking, sweating, and singing - and because it's a weird stay-put formula, it doesn't bleed so I don't even need liner!

  • Makeup wise, I would rec Clinique's Advanced Concealer - the only one I've ever been able to find that matches me skin tone.  I'm screwed if they ever stop making it.

Other stuff wise - I've been using those Finish power packs (with the red dot in the middle) in the dishwasher and they're amazing.  So much better than cascade.

Also, Winter Candle Apple body care from Bath and Body Works.  H really loves it on me, too ;)

Other than that, nothing's really stuck out to me recently.

Ooooo, awesome! Ever since the phosphates have been taken out of dish detergent (http://www.npr.org/2010/12/15/132072122/it-s-not-your-fault-your-dishes-are-still-dirty), I have not been able to get them to look clean! I'm totally trying this next.

  • My first rec is a super cheap one but I have been washing my face this way for years and it has cleared up my skin like no OTC facial cleanser ever has - Baking Soda! Wet your face, massage a little baking soda (1 tbsp approx) into your skin and rinse. It neutralizes pH, exfoliates, and clears out pores, all for 75 cents a box.

This one is a little more expensive but it lasts a long time and is totally worth it. http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P1272 It is the best lip/cheek tint. It smells like roses so you have to realize that when you put it on your lips but its an awesome blush. It looks like a natural flush and doesn't look "applied" like some do when you put them on with a blush brush.

What's up with the Save the Board campaign anyway?

When I moved back to the Midwest, my hair started falling out-in clumps.  I realized (after trying what felt like every single shampoo on the drugstore shelf) that I was having a reaction to the SLS and other chemicals in conventional shampoo (I even tried baby shampoo).  A coworker turned me on to Morrocco Method's line of shampoos that are raw, vegan and organic.  There are no chemicals in it whatsoever, just botanicals.  It's aloe based, so it's ultra nourishing for my scalp.  I've actually noticed significant hair GAIN (even my over critical Asian mother who never compliments me on anything made a comment about how my hair was coming back).  There was a detox period of about a month and a half where my hair was really greasy, but after it stopped overproducing oils, my hair looks really healthy and shiny.  I can't say enough good things about this stuff!

     https://morroccomethod.com/

I also just picked up the perfect shade of red lipstick from Mac called Russian Red.  I thought it was a little orangy at first, but the Mac girl suggested filling in my lips first with lip liner (I finally settled on Cherry Red liner), which totally made all the difference.  I will feel like a complete dork with fire red lips just sitting in my cube, but I'm doin it!

I also want to suggest Shiseido if you've got olivy or Asian skin.  I am asolutely in love with their concealer, powder, and bronzer because they really match & compliment my skin.

Geez, I totally sound like a makeup snob, and I'm completely not...I actually hardly wear makeup, but I figure that I want to find the perfect stuff for when I do.  I am, however, serious about the shampoo.  It's pricey, but they have a product that goes on sale every week & I usually order with a buddy to save on shipping...highly recommended!

Basically, posts here are few and far between so Noron started posting "SAVE THE BOARD!!" at the end of all her posts.  We want to keep it alive.

In the winter, I'll usually put on regular moisturizer first before I put this stuff on. The rest of the year, it's great by itself.

  • musgral, I love the baking soda tip! I'm going to try it!

I'm not a big product user but I love these:

Organix Coconut Milk Shampoo, Conditioner, & Weightless Styling Mousse (I love the smell) http://www.organixhair.com/category-title/342

My friend had a bottle of the Teatree Mint shampoo and it smelled SO good, I might try that next!

I also love Pond's Dry Skin Cream for post-shower moisturizer:

     http://www.ponds.com/products-dry_skin.aspx

and Wet Cleansing Towelettes at night to remove makeup:

    http://www.amazon.com/Ponds-Orginal-Cleansing-Towelettes-30-Count/dp/B001ECQ5IE

I also love my Bare Minerals black eyeliner. My MIL got it for me for Christmas and I just wear that, a little shadow, and lip gloss every day.

  • Of the products I use here that are also available in the US, I cannot recommend Lush's Fresh Farmacy facial cleanser enough. I have sensitive skin that is prone to break-outs and the Fresh Farmacy helps keep my skin clear and not too red.

I loved Aveeno's Ultra-Calming night cream as a moisturizer, but they stopped making it -- and the sunscreen Aveeno uses in the day Ultra-Calming formula makes me itch. I have found Nivea's Sensitive Daily Moisture lotion to be the best moisturizer with sunscreen here for me, but I never saw much of the Nivea range in the US.

I use cheap shampoo, Suave was my favorite in the US, here I use Nature's Organics Fruits line. I am really a no frills make-up person, just a dab of moisturizer unless it's a really special occasion and then I'll get all made up. Usually I use Softlips lip balm because it comes in a thin tube and I have thin lips, but I am not too picky about lip balms, except that I find Chap-Stick too waxy to glide on smoothly.

I miss being able to get Sea Breeze Sensitive Skin Astringent here. I really liked how that left my face feeling.

I don't mind being held to a higher standard; I mind being held to a lower one. (Sam Seaborn, The West Wing)
