New show titled, "My House, Your Money" Couples buying houses with money from their PITA parents. What a trainwreck that will be.Why do people buy houses if they can't afford it? grrrrrrrrrrrrr
Re: TIP on HGTV
I saw the ad for that show too. I'm just hoping its at least good drama and not fake Bridezilla drama.
And parents buying their kids houses never ends well. Usually means that the kids have their shiit together. Of the two people I know off the top of my head that had parents buy them houses neither are employed. And the one just had a baby and neither her nor her baby daddy work, but her parents bought the house for her because she was knocked up.
Yeah, sounds like normal HGTV programming. But I would like to see a show where they freely admit that they're a bunch of sponging free-loaders. Usually they try to slip that in all secret-squirrel.

My favorite is the guy who lived with his parents but blew his salary on a 70K Mercedes and a steady stream of overpriced denim. He sat there and said his mortgage lender told him he'd have to get rid of the car if he wanted to buy a house because it showed up on his credit report as basically a mortgage payment.
And yet, the dude kept the car and bought a house. Hmmmmm.
H & I just got cable for the first time in 3 years. H was excited to watch HGTV 'for the home improvement shows' but IMO it's pretty much the acting irresponsibly for stupid reasons channel. Like the other night, it was an episode featuring a couple buying their first house to move out of one of their parents' house a month before their wedding, and the woman kept rejecting houses because she didn't like the paint colors.
Yes! That drives me nuts!! Who cares about the paint colors? I mean, really, it's the easiest thing in the world to change.
DH always gets on his soapbox about what small down payments they all have and how they are probably all in foreclosure by now.
Yet, we still watch it.
I remember that guy. And he bought the crappiest house too.
I knew a family where it was tradition that the parents gave them $10,000 to buy their first house. Most of them did okay, but the brother that couldn't afford to give all of his kids $10,000...of course that is why they were on welfare (just as them) and why they couldn't work.
I guess I don't get it. I'd like to have enough money to LOAN my kids their down payment, but I don't want to hand it out. Even FIL wanted to give us money for our down payment, but I declined.
Sounds like quality programming to me.
I hate it when people harp on paint colors. Dude, it's like a $100 fix, and that's the paint and all the supplies if you don't already have them. I loved picking paint colors for my own home, and I don't even mind painting.
Have you ever noticed that everyone needs a study or office? I've always noticed that. It always comes off as weird to me. Like, these people are so important they need to have a work office at home. I actually do work from home a lot. My home office is the laptop while sitting on the living room couch watching TV.
And this is what got us into the mortgage mess: giving loans to people who have no pot to piss in, and also permitting NINJA loans...No Income No Job or Assets: Ninja.
Heh, me too! I'm either on the couch watching ANTM reruns or lounging in bed with a dog wedged against me.
BF told me the extra bedroom in his new house can be my office and I told him it was much more likely to become a walk-in closet.
Omg, that's an amazing idea. All-new inspiration to clean out the spare room closet now.
Bwahahahahahahahahaha!!!
I love it when the uninformed idiots come out to play.
Love. It.
