So, a Dutch colleague of mine and his wife just had their baby in Belgium two weeks ago. The baby would not turn around (head down) so they had to get a C section - not an emergency, it was scheduled. Everything went well, but the Dad did not get to watch the operation on the other side of the glass like the gyno told him he could. He did not even get to see the Mom until like 2 hours after surgery! They put her in a separate "recovery" room.
I would totally want my DH in the room with me for everything, but apparently its not allowed in Belgium
The Mom got to see the baby when he came out, then they whisked him away and the Dad held him for the two hours Mom was in recovery. I think it is really sad they did not get to share the birth moment together! And her wound got infected...not sure how I feel about that. Hopefully its not a sign of the hospital's cleanliness ![]()
Re: International C sections
Mine was unplanned, but DH was only away from me for the time it takes to scrub up. He held my hand throughout until she came out, and then he went with her while they gave her a quick once-over to make sure she was ok. She was on my chest as they wheeled me down the hall to recovery, where the three of us stayed together. We also roomed in together until discharge. I have no complaints about how our care was handled.
I have to echo what Mrs.E. said: any wound can get infected. I wouldn't let that get to you.
That's such a bummer! I know in Spain that is not the norm. If I end up with a c-section he will be in the room and they will even do immediate skin on skin with baby and dad as long as everything is okay.
I'm really surprised they would do that to them! I agree, it's sad that they weren't able to share that experience.
