Goat for sale?

They are selling goats for sale on the side of the road to be sacrificed for religious purposes next weeekend, they are expensive though Rp 1,000,000 which is about AUS$100.

Poor things.

  • Noooooo.  :(  I'll buy one.  Poor guys.
  • Do they eat the meat after, or is it just a waste?

From what I can gather it is to eat them after, it is happening next weekend so I will report back!

  • In Ethiopia this is very common especially around holidays. And sometimes people buy the live goats and take them home on a public bus. I've never had goat but DH says it's gross and I'm happy to take his word for it!
  • $100 AUD seems like it would be insanely expensive in relation to local salaries. Is it something for which everyone buys a goat or just some people?

It is the same thing here (Bangladesh) although I am not sure how much they are selling the animals for.  (There are goats, cows, and "water buffalo" for sale here).  I hear it gets pretty bloody in the streets though, as in part of the tradition is to kill the animal in your yard, take what you want to cook, but leave the carcass out for the less fortunate.  I am cautiously curious about the whole thing.
