Need advice - online dating
So, when you message a guy for the first time what sorts of things do you say? I feel awkward as a$s about it, and that must come thru in my messages because usually I never hear back. I'm so BAD at online dating, and every time I try it I just find it exhausting!
Re: Need advice - online dating
Just try and find a common thread and go with it. Ask questions and relate a story about yourself.
Example: if a guy mentions that he likes running I might say something like
"Good to know I am not the only crazy one out there running in the cold/snow/rain! What races do your normally run? I did XXXX race this year and it was crazy because of XYZ. Blah blah blah."
What do you normally write?
3/12 5 mi -- 49:22 Pace: 9:52
5/1 Half Marathon -- 2:11:22 Pace: 10:01
5/22 10k -- 56:29 Pace: 9:00
5/24 3.6 -- 29:03 Pace: 8:18
7/10 15k -- 1:44:46 injured Pace: 11:14
10/29 5k -- 28:24 Pace: 9:04
I honestly never messaged first.
What site are you using? Some are just for flings and some are peope looking for relatonships, that alone can make or break your initial contact. I generally never contacted a guy first, I just sent a wink to sort of 'invite' him to message me.
If you want to make the first contact, maybe pull something from his profile and comment on it?
Make sure your profile is fun and true to you, what kind of photo do you have up? Try to get a nice clear one, not taken by your phone in the washroom mirror
Just trying to cover the basics of what I found successful. I was blatently honest in my profile and I think that came across that I wasnt desperate, I put right in it not to message me if you were too far from my city.
Do women really put up topless pics?? I ask because StbX joined an online site a few years ago when I was pregnant with our second child. At the time he told me he had been contacted by two women but decided not to pursue it and was sorry blah blah blah... But I've always wondered what they looked like. I imagined cute blond college girls but I never thought they may sent him topless pics.
If you want to PM it to me, I'd be happy to read it
Definatly ask for some help with your profile. No one is comfortable with online dating so try to be light and refreshing. I remember putting in mine that you have to love kids cause I have 2 and I plan on keeping them! I also put things like when Im in a relationship I like to spend alot of time with the person so if your more than a ____min drive dont bother messaging me because the distance wont allow that. I was pretty clear that you couldnt be living in your parents basement, that I was a grown woman taking care of myself and my children independantly and didnt need someone else to support.
Hope I dont sound like a ***, but honestly I met amazing people and I think being honest gained me respect.
Me too!

I was joking - I hope women don't do that! I was making a reference to what most men do, there are a whole lot of men in topless bathroom pics.
And ew. This totally skeevs me out...if I were to see this, I'd quickly hit the "next" button!
