Question for the moms

Aiden doesn't take naps at school even though he is tired. So sometimes when I pick him up from school, he falls asleep on the long drive home. I try keeping him awake but so far no luck with that. About three times now he doesn't wake up when we get home. Those few times he sleeps until it is time to wake up the next morning (about 12 hours of sleep). I'm not sure if this should worry me or not. Not that sleeping is harmful but I wonder if something is going on inside that is making him get so tired he doesn't wake up until the next morning. It has only happened 3 times in the past month or 2 so it isn't going on all the time. Anyone else's kid do this?

  • And tonight looks like it will be one of those nights so I actually had time to post! :)

  • What time is he falling asleep for the night? How long did he used to nap for?

If he's happy and acting normal I wouldn't worry about it. Kids need sleep, he's just doing his job. :)

  • Ditto PP. IF you're super concerned, though, I'd just call his pediatrician and ask the on call nurse if there is anything to worry about. I'm sure it's fine, though. :) Bean is younger than A, but she sleeps for a solid 12 hours a night and naps 2 hours during the day.
  • Kennedy is much younger, but if she doesn't nap during the day, she goes to bed super early, and will sleep through the night (about 12 hours).  She can be totally exhausted, but she is too engrossed in whatever is going on to want to nap.

  • Isaiah has been doing this recently.  He does not nap at school now, altho they DO have a nap time.  Then, he is so tired when he gets home, he has been falling asleep some nights before dinner and not waking up until the next morn.  I have been going with it, thinking he needs the rest, so I wouldn't worry too much.  I really think he WEARS himself out during the day and if he is sleeping all night and not ready to get up and play in the middle of the night then I am fine with it.  A couple of times he has woken up a couple of hrs later and has been SOOOO exhausted, crying, etc, that I have just put him right back to bed and he hasn't fought it.
