Does Anyone Know How to Create a Hot Key?

When reporting to my clients I type the same thing over and over again...it would be awesome if I could just hit a key or two and have the information pop up instead of copying and pasting all.the.time.  Anyone know how to do this?

  • You mean, like a macro in word?

Yes but I was hoping I didn't need to keep Word open though because right now I just copy & paste a blurb I have written out in Word to the reporting system I use for my clients.  I'd rather just hit F12 or something and have it populate my blurb.

  • Based on the title of your post, I thought you were taking up car thievery, so I'm clearly not the person with the answer.

This begs the question:  Were you going to give me an answer related to car thievery?

That is funny and yet I thought the same thing!

No, but I was curious enough that I opened the post to learn the answer, so I suppose that says just as much about me.

  • Is the information always the same?  Or is it that you have a word file for a person and then copy that into a reporting program individually?

Is your word file marked up at all, as in, does it have any field definitions?  And what reporting program are you using?  If it's proprietary, there probably isn't a whole lot you can do.  But, programs like crystal reports can link to lots of different file types.  Word is one of the hardest to work with, though.
