wtf mirena?

Ok, tmi - but I got the mirena put in - I havent stopped having this effing period - its been like two weeks! wtf?!?! I thought it was supposed to stop it all together.

Re: wtf mirena?

  • I got mine inserted in April and this is the first month I haven't had any sort of bleeding.  I think it takes a few month, or at least in my case it did.  I did bleed a lot in the beginning though.  My OB said that is the #1 reason people come back to her to take it out is because of the bleeding but she said a lot of women don't give it enough time.  I just figured even if I had a period each month it is better than having to remember a pill every day!
  • ok, this makes me feel a little bit better. I was about to call my OB - but I will give it more time.

I hate hate taking the pill everyday, and I tried the nuvaring and wasnt a big lover of it, so I chose mirena - plus, my insurance covered 100% of it, so why not?

  • Be prepared to wait it out.  When I got mine in, a little spotting and nothing until I was supposed to get my period.  Then I spotted for 4 months.  For real.  I went back to my OB with a WTF and she said wait it out.  I did and after that I haven't had any spotting or anything, for 2 years.  In the end, it's worth it.  If you can make it.

    thanks to jennied :)

  • Mine was covered 100% too, so awesome!   I forget that I even have it and that is my favorite part about it!  But yes, I was very frustrated in the beginning as well.
  • I got mine before I got a PP period so I only spotted but I've heard (from my doctor) that if you have a PP period, you can bleed a little longer while your body gets used to it.

Wait it out, you'll end up loving it!

  • I had it for about a year, and I bled easily for at least 8 weeks straight. I called to have it removed and they talked me into waiting a couple more weeks. If finally quit, but I hated the effing thing and couldn't wait to have it removed. I will never do it again.

I seem to be the minority though (on here) because a lot of ladies love it.

ETA: I also still had a period every month. Not as heavy or as long, but still WAY more than spotting.

  • I got mine put in towards the end of my period and then bled for probably 2 weeks after it was put in.  I've had it a year and have only had a couple very light days of bleeding since then.  I LOVE it so would say hang in there b/c for most people, it seems to get better once you get thru the initial part of it.
  • I had mine put in at my 6 wk post labor appt---Just when I think I'm done bleeding, I get another small gush---ugh, I'm so sick of pads I could vomit!! I'm just trying to wait it out too :(

  • Here's another vote for you to wait it out. I feel like I bled for quite a while after I got it with Owen. I only did for a little bit (a week ??) with Amelie but we're also nursing hardcore. I'm so happy with it. If it works out it's so friggin easy. If you can stand it, just wait.
