H and I are leaning towards a design by Closets by Design because it was SO SO SO much cheaper than California Closets...But I am wondering WHY they are so much cheaper....

I agree with jen812, the D&R ladies will probably be able to help out.
I think we have California Closets in our house but they were put in by the previous owner so I'm not 100% sure. I suspect you're paying for the brand with CC, much like Hunter Douglas or Tiffany.
I just got multiple quotes for closet systems. I found CC to be the most expensive by far. Going with Closets by Design and close second to Closet Solutions based out of Porter Sq. They were great too but still a bit more expensive than Closets by Design.
Not really sure why CC is so much more. Not sure what kind of material they use but there really cant be that much of a difference. You might want to check out closet solutions showroom. Might be helpful for you to see the material they work with in person.
Our Closets by Design closet is getting installed the end of Nov. Feel free to message me and I can give you an update, if you like.
