What are some fun things to do in the winter that don't involve looking like the kid from Christmas Story?
I know this is a stupid question being that I've always lived in Minnesota but as I get older, I have less and less tolerance for the cold. It's 70 in our house right now and I'm still cold in sweatpants, a t-shirt, wool socks and a wool blanket around me.

Re: Fun winter activities?
Last year we took up snowshoeing and we love it! It's a great way to get some hiking in during the winter and once you get moving you actually stay super warm. We bought our snowshoes on clearance at the end of winter last year and we plan on using them a lot more this winter!
Shovelling your sidewalk, digging your car out of the huge snowbank left by the plow, adding five minutes to your getting ready time to accommodate for all the extra layers, adding 20 minutes to your drive to accommodate for the slower traffic/bad drivers/accidents...
Oh wait, you said FUN things to do. That's a slightly harder list to make.
I grew up in NE Wisconsin where winter is about a month longer than here. I never really liked and kind of resign myself to indoor activities. Last winter I started learning to crochet.
I actually don't mind snowshoeing and we do try to do some hiking at Fort Snelling state park but I get so cold. It's one of my hypothyroidism symptoms that won't go away - I don't know how to explain it other than it's like the cold goes right into my bones and I just can't warm up.
hkiesling....as I was reading your first part, I was asking myself what kind of crazy person thinks this stuff is fun! I do a lot of knitting in the winter - it definitely helps pass the time.

Indoor ice skating?
Wow, I haven't been ice skating in forever. I wonder if I could convince DH to go. Do you know of any good places?
That also reminds me of rollerblading at the Metrodome. Hmm.

Are you looking for outdoor activities only? If not, I always think bowling is fun, or else do a night at Dave and Buster's where there is bowling and other indoor games. (We used to do this at Gameworks until it closed).
I also find myself trying new recipes that take longer to cook in winter, and really enjoy doing this on the weekends.
The Metrodome allows you to bring rollerblades or go running indoors on certain days

and there are also days when you can bring your dog there to play http://www.dogday5k.com/page/show/157278-dog-days-at-the-dome.
Personally in the winter, I am not much of an outdoors person. I would say in the winter I spend a lot of time going to movies/plays also renting movies. I also love going to hockey games (I am an SCSU alumni) and watching football (Go Vikings!).
Around Christmas time, I LOVE to go to the Holidazzle parade! It can get cold sometimes, but it is so fun and I love it! I also love to bake cookies and decorate for Christmas. I love Christmas shopping and going to craft shows also.
